PROJECT INFORMATION | The Tandil Mountain Complex is a military facility, command center and defensive bunker located in the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, near the city of Tandil. It is an annex of the Tandil Air Force Base (5th Air Brigade). It is administered by the Argentine Air Force and serves as a alternate and safe high level command center in case of armed conflict or other threats to the chain argentine chain of command. Main Chambers The complex was built under 450m of granite on 1.6 hectares. 8 three-story buildings are protected from movement, e.g. earthquake or explosion, by a system of giant springs that the buildings sit on and flexible pipe connectors to limit the operational effect of movement. A spring system is installed to prevent any of the 8 buildings from shifting significantly. The complex is certified to be able to sustain an EMP. The Complex includes several storage rooms for liquid and solid refrigerated and non-refrigerated food and medical supplies to support all inhabitants of the Complex for a period of up to 6 months. The main facilities include: - Integral Command Center - Conference rooms - Offices and working stations - Living quarters for up to 400 personnel (sleeping, messroom and social spaces) - VIP quarters - Presidential quarters - High complexity medical facilities and supplies - Cafeterias - Several bulk and liquid storages - Industrial kitchens and refrigerated rooms - Fitness centers - Garages and hangars - Engineering building and storage - Vehicle Garage for land land and small air units (jeeps, VIP cars, trucks, helicopters, and small aircraft) - Cyberwarfare command center The Integral Command Center has an autonomous powerplant and last gen-communication devices (including encrypted ones) that enables the Command center to be in constant communication with the outside world, including all other argentine and allied military facilities. High-speed internet, telephone and radio connections are widely avialable, although they can be cut off if necesary. The complex host all equipment necesary to conduct and follow live military operations on the ground, air and sea. It is connected to the Aerial and Coastal Defence Network of Argentina and has access to all argentine military and civilian fixed radar and sensor systems. Blast doors The complex is built to deflect a 30Mt explosion as close as 1km. Within the mountain tunnel are sets of 25-ton blast doors and another for the civil engineering department. The doors were built so that they can always be opened when needed. Should a nuclear blast hit the building, they are designed to withstand a blast wave. There is a network of blast valves with unique filters to capture airborne chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear contaminants. Support facilities The complex has its own power plant, heating and cooling system, air purification plant and water supply. The systems are prepared to withstand medical emergencies, natural disasters, civil disorder, a conventional attack, an electromagnetic pulse attack, a cyber or information attack and chemical or biological or radiological attack. Water springs inside the mountain complex are connected to a 1.4 million gallon reservoir that can be used to extinguish fire breakouts and provide the Complex with all water needs. Several massive reservoirs for diesel fuel and battery banks are connected to independent and secured electric facilities and generators able to provide all operational needs for more than 6 months without outside support. All this safely inside the Complex. The complex is surrounded by several constantly monitored security fences, watch towers and ground radars. That are connected directly to the main entrance of the Complex and have also a road connection to the the 5th Air Force Brigade air facilities and local routes. Administrative building and large storage for bulk and liquid cargo are also available on site. Outside of the military complex are the parking lots, a heliport, a fire station and outdoor recreational facilities. The Complex is top secret and only selected personnel knows of it existence. This includes the maintenance crews, which are part of the Argentine Air Force Engineering Divisions and permanently look after the Complex in order to have it constantly fully supplied and ready to be sealed off. |
