| PROJECT COST | 1,200,000,000.00 |
| COMPLETION DATE | 22/09/2026 |
| PROJECT INFORMATION | Put on hold by the previous government, Vienna Airport Expansion incorporates 2 projects: expansion of Terminal 3 and a construction of a new third runway: Terminal 3 Expansion A new, 3 floor building will be built on the south of the current terminal 3, connecting to the east pier. The new development will provide 70,000 m² of additional terminal space, of which 10,000 m² retail and entertainment: 4,800 m² catering space, 6,200 m² retail space, and 6,000 m² lounge area. The development will also provide 18 new bus gates and a new central security checkpoint to streamline passenger flow. This will enable increased peak-hour throughput, reduce congestion and enable more efficient aircraft turnaround and passenger flows. Third Runway The third runway is to be parallel to and south of the existing runway 11/29. It will be designated 11R/29L, with the existing runway being renamed 11L/29R. The new runway is planned to be 3,900 m long and 60 m wide, and equipped with a category III instrument landing system in one direction (29L). This would also include the construction of 3km of taxiways, relocation of roads and terrain engineering, new air-traffic-control facilities and navigation systems, drainage, environmental mitigation and land acquisition, and internal roads and airport operating infrastructure. Through further gates, terminal efficiency, additional flight traffic capacity and better use of larger aircraft, the expansion will provide additional capacity of up to 20 million passengers annually, and an additional 200,000 flights (passenger and cargo) annually. |
