PROJECT | Expansion of Naval facilities at El Arish |
PROJECT COST | 300,000,000.00 |
COMPLETION DATE | 26/04/2020 |
PROJECT INFORMATION | After discussions between Egypt and Israel, Cairo agreed to expand the port facilities of the city of El Arish, located on the mediterranean coast of the Sinai Peninsula. Said expansion would be done jointly with Israel, given that half of the capacity of this naval base will be assigned to the Israeli Navy as part of the joint defense agreements between both nations. Due to this reason, and the current global scenario, both nations would focus all available reosurces (money, workers, materials and logistics in general) to this task and to have it operational as soon as possible. El Arish already has a port, but it will be expanded to host a larger number of military vessels and to include an efficient resupply component as well as faiclities to host the crews and maintenance teams. The expanded port will include: - Capacity for 16 large sized ships. - Capacity for 32 small ships (corvettes and smaller) - Docks, cranes and ramps to access all of them and supply them. - Supply and ammunition depots. - Crew and personnel lodgings and living quarters. - Security perimeter and check-points - Navigation aids, radars and communication systems - Dredging of access ways and mooring spaces - All other logistical and technical elements for the safe operation of a naval port. Temporary support facilities will be created to support the expansion tasks. |
