PROJECT INFORMATION | Port Vanvikan is a major Norwegian Royal Navy base. It is located between the towns of Vanvikan and Seter on a straight, flat piece of land 2,300 feet long. (63°33'32.6"N 10°18'59.9"E) The few homes that are here have been purchased far above their value, and the road 755 has been diverted further north to avoid the base. Supplies and building materials are being brought in by military personnel and contractors alike, and is being done at an expedited - but still professional and careful - way. This port will serve to protect the City of Trondheim, as well as provide a more centralized location for deployments to the North of Norway, to Svalbard, or into the Norwegian Sea. At max capacity, the base itself can hold 1068 sailors (the crew capacity of the ships listed below), 2000 active-duty Royal Marines, accommodations for 250 additional people, and has the training/accommodation space for 500 Royal Marine recruits. Total: 3818 The largest piece of infrastructure is the port itself. It's a cement dock which is 2,300 feet long, with a 700 foot subdock at both ends. Together, with all of this space, the following will be able to be in port safely at the same time: -2 Sejong The Great destroyers -3 Fridtjof Nanse frigates -8 Skjold Corvettes Port Vanvikan will also now serve as the home base of the Royal Marines. Exactly 2000 Royal Marines will be comfortably based. The base can also has the space to accommodate 500 people training to be Royal Marines. The following infrastructure is to accommodate the sailors, Royal Marines, and other visitors for long periods of time: -various barracks -officers quarters -stores -fuel storage (also for ships and vehicles) -on-site power-plant -communications center -recreation -shooting range and training center This project is being expedited, which is partially why the cost has reached $1-billion. |
