PROJECT INFORMATION | Project Lusitano is a Military Project for the development of a High Mobility Cargo truck for the use of the Portuguese Army. Development of the vehicle would start at Phase I, where designers would cooperate with one another to develop an HMCT appropriate for Portugal's relatively flat terrain and is able to traverse mountainous and hilly areas. Contractors EMPORDEF and UMM are now competing for the design, as the initial cooperation phase has ended, with the Portuguese Government favoring the UMM Model. With the success of the initial Phase, the Final Phase would initiate development in creating a Production-ready variant based on the initial prototype. With minimal changes after initial testing, the truck would be named UHT-596 Lusitano. Due to Portugal's fledgling economy, the design would roughly be affordable for Portugal to produce.
