Gatherings within the City
On the 2nd of July is Celebrated the day of Independence of Bahia, one of the first movements for the Independence of Brazil, happening in 1822.
Many have gathered in Salvador for a peaceful demonstration celebrating the Historic Date, many other demonstrations have been reported in other locations within the Province. The people gathered held Imperial flags and banners, as well as the province's flags. Messages like "Long Live the Emperor!", "Independence or Death!" and "Hail Pedro the Liberator!" being chanted by the demonstrators.
The President of the Province, José Braga himself, was present in the Demonstration, giving a speech in front of the Rio Branco Palace.
"We are gathered here today to celebrate one of the, if not the, most important date in Bahia's history, the people of this province have showed their strength and passion for their country time and time again, I wish to dedicate this day to the people, the heart and spirit of Bahia!"
He was cheered on by the population who happily waved their flags and banners.
