Subject: Emerging from Isolation

Dear Karsten Jürke,

It is my honor to be the one to write this message to you on behalf of the Diarchy of Romania.

For the past decade, Romania has been in a state of isolation; cutting all ties to the outside world and focusing on our country and our people. However, the new co-rulers of Romania, King Cristofor and Queen Cosmina, have decided that it is time for us to emerge from this isolation and re-enter the global stage. The Deutsches Reich is believed to be a nation of great interest to re-open diplomatic relationships and trade routes. I hope that doing so interests the Deutsches Reich, your reply is anticipated.

Best regards,
Capuchehaie Ivan Giurgiu

Diarchy of Romania

Herr Capuchehaie,

I feel quite honored to see that your government has taken an interest in opening diplomatic relations with the German Reich. I would consider more interest in the offers of establishing a free-trade agreement — something which I should note is something that our country believes is reserved for allies or close friends to our nation — and in establishing a more fervent effort for diplomatic missions.

As it stands, the diplomatic missions of Germany in Romania are still open and, to my knowledge, have not yet required a closure. This does include the Embassy in Bucharest, the Consulate-General in Timișoara, and the Consulate in Sibiu. I am, as of now, currently unaware if your consulates and embassies in Germany — including: the Embassy in Berlin & Consulates of Bonn & Munich — are still operational, but I have assumed that they are, and am dispatching representatives & ambassadors of Germany to these extraterritorial claims in order to establish a more proper relation.

In regards to free-trade, I am unfortunately going to have to decline the offer, but I am willing to explore the foundations of a trade agreement that benefits both parties. According to my compatriot — the Federal Minister of Finance & Economic Cooperation — Matthias Hierl, the German Reich's top five exports include motor vehicles — in particular those produced by Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen — machinery in use for commercial production, construction, and workshops — including, but not limited to: printing presses, welding equipment, cranes and cement mixers, and drill presses — metals for use in manufacturing and construction work — such as aluminum, steel, iron, and other composites which may be useful for both the civilian and military markets — Pharmaceuticals — primarily in more specialized fields such as vaccines and antibiotics — and electronic products for both civilian and military use — including radios, televisions, speakers, music players, and cellular devices.

With these chief exports in mind, it comes to no surprise that I expect that some of these items would prove quite useful. Smaller vehicles, such as those produced by Volkswagen, would prove to be quite useful in crowded city streets, and Mercedes-Benz has a fantastic track record for both on-road and off-road journeys, with some vehicles being tailor-made for military purposes, such as the Mercedes-Benz G-Class or Zetros light utility 4x4 truck. Pharmaceutical development could prove quite useful assistance from medical apparatuses and magnifying tools that — if cooperated on — could result in medical breakthroughs that bring the world that much closer to being less-diseased overall. The rest should be rather self-explanatory, of course, with machinery and machining equipment, as well as various metallics being used particularly by the infrastructural industry and electronic products being a profitable commodity among civilians.

With that being said, however, we would need to discuss a trade deal in person, or with representatives from each participating party, in order to assure that the quality of our trade is beneficial, as well as the quantity of products. I can organize a trip within the next two–three months to discuss such a deal with you and, if your Majesties will allow it, to meet and discuss the affairs as well with His Imperial & Royal Majesty, the Kaiser. I await a response with bated breath, and hope that I have caught your government in a pleasant mood.

Thank you for your time patience,

Dear Kasten Jürke,

It should be noted that our late King Augustin closed all of the Romanian embassies abroad along with foreign embassies within Bucharest when the country entered its state of isolation. From what I remember, these closings were done peacefully and with respect. These buildings remain in good health and can easily and quickly be re-established in working embassy order. As for our own embassies and consulates in Germany, King Augustin re-called them all to Romania when our state of isolation was declared. But we can easily select proper ambassadors to send to Germany to re-open our embassy and consulates.

We understand entirely why the Reich reserve its free-trade agreements for allies and close friends only and Romania is more than willing to be patient to hopefully achieve both an agreement and a friendship such as this in the future. Keeping that in mind, Romania's co-rulers would welcome any representatives from the Reich to discuss any potential deals that could be formed between our nations. Any non-royal representative would be hosted by either myself or their Romanian counterpart. But if the Kaiser would bless us with such a visit, would be hosted by the co-rulers themselves.

Our schedule is open and thus a meeting would be arranged at Germany's own availability.

Best regards,
Capuchehaie Ivan Giurgiu

Herr Capuchehaie,

Upon review of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs' records regarding embassy and consulate closures, along with your testaments to the case, it is clear that I was mistaken in believing that we had diplomatic missions open in Hungary, or vise-versa. I do apologize for that minor inconvenience, and would be willing to discuss a reopening of both parties' diplomatic missions as soon as possible. Now, in regards to potential trade deals, I believe that, upon arrival to Romania, I can discuss with you personally on not only the locations for diplomatic missions — whether or not they shall be the same locations prior to the closings — but also on a potential trade deal that benefits both of our countries that, while fair, does not mean that either party goes uncompensated.

His Imperial & Royal Majesty has expressed his interest in coming to Romania upon the weather becoming less fraught with peril for not only his staff, but for your country as well. In regards to this, he is considering a trip to Romania to meet with your diarchy as early as late-April or early-MayIC. In regards to this, the Kaiser is excited to meet His & Her Majesties, and hopefully open the door to a further cooperative partnership.

That being said, as of the moment, the weather is frightfully cold, to the point where ordinary citizens are evacuating, traffic has come to a dead stop, and powerlines are snapping due to being so cold. Once conditions improve, we will be able to organize a formal trip to Bucharest, and meet there to discuss on further matters.

My regards,
Karsten Jürke
