Valentin Kovalev, Minister of Justice, Russian Federation
To: Einar Åkesson, Regional Manager for Europe, Strömberg International Legal Consultants
Greetings,
I write you on this day as the Russian Federation wishes to engage in your services on two fronts. The Government of Russia would to have Strömberg on retainer for the following reasons.
It has been noticed that many countries on many occasions abuse previous production licenses that were given in friendship by the previous Soviet Government. These of course are production licenses, not ownership. So every now and again we have seen companies in other nations attempt to produce Russian equipment. This equipment often gives a bad name to the original sold product.
Example I: Lion of Babylon (Tank)
This is a T-72 clone that uses dangerous mild armor, and is lacking in many features even our most basic export models have. The tank was also produced illegally, circumventing national arms bans.
Example II: Shenyang J-11 (Aircraft)
This is a copy of our excellent Su-27SK export model. We gave the Chinese the ability to produce 200, however lessened to 100. They then went on to copy the aircraft and fit it ill put together engines.
Example III: Chengdu J-7
A licensed built MiG-21 which has had it's technology stolen and modified into other designs which are undoubtedly still based on our MiG-21.
Simply put, one thing all these clones have in common is that they are typically of a lesser quality and hurt the Russian market. It is also dangerous for these countries to use such inferior equipment. What we would like is for Strömberg to help put an end to this, and crack down on these damaging products. No matter the age of the design.
Best of Wished,
Kovalev
