Buenos Aires, December 2013 The Government of the Republic of Argentina is deeply concerned by the events currently unfolding in the Balkan Region. Having being always a supporter of the principle of territorial integrity, one of the most important elements of international law, Argentine does not recognize the unilateral independence of the so called "state" of Kosovo. However, the Republic of Argentina also regrets any rushed decision that could lead to an escalation and open war, with the consequential cost in material and, more important, human lifes. Therefore, we strongly urge to the Government of Serbia, to bring this issue to the General Assembly to be discussed and solved there, in a pertinent multilateral forum of global governance. In the meantime, the Argentine Republic would like to remind the United States and Germany that they do not have any mandate or legal right to intervene with military force in this conflict, as such could only be extended by an international organization that represents the whole of the international community, such as the General Assembly. Should both nations persist in this inappropiate attitude, they will be deemed as aggresor, just as other involved Parties. |
