To the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of China,
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Thailand presents its warmest regards to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China. It is with respect and a spirit of cooperation that we convey our concerns regarding the recent outbreak of SARS-CoV in Guangdong Province.
First and foremost, the Government of Thailand commends the Government of the People’s Republic of China for its swift and decisive measures in addressing this emerging public health challenge. The steps taken by the Chinese authorities to contain the spread of the disease are a testament to their vigilance and commitment to safeguarding public health.
Nevertheless, we express our deep concern over the potential for this new disease to extend beyond the borders of Guangdong and, possibly, beyond China’s national borders. Reports from Chinese state media have highlighted expert opinions indicating that the disease may have already spread beyond Guangdong, raising legitimate concerns for neighboring countries and the global community.
In this challenging time, Thailand stands in solidarity with China as it faces this threat to human health and welfare. We are fully committed to supporting China’s efforts to prevent and mitigate the spread of SARS-CoV. As a leading producer of advanced medical electronic equipment in Southeast Asia, with a significant manufacturing presence in Chiang Mai, Thailand is well-positioned to assist in bolstering disease prevention efforts. Please rest assured that the workers’ cooperatives of Thailand stand united with the people of China in this fight.
To enhance regional cooperation and ensure an effective response, Thailand would greatly appreciate receiving the latest information and analysis regarding the SARS-CoV outbreak. In particular, any assessments regarding its spread beyond Guangdong Province would be invaluable. Should the need arise, Thailand is ready to dispatch medical personnel and epidemiology specialists to collaborate with Chinese authorities in containing the outbreak and preventing its further spread.
We remain hopeful that, through collective effort and mutual support, this challenge can be overcome. Please accept our best wishes for the success of your ongoing efforts and for the health and safety of the people of China.
