To: <His Majesty, King Stanislaus Grabowski of the Kingdom of Poland> ManBear From: <Sarabun@gov.mail.go.th> Subject: 2004 New Caledonia Crisis Security Type: NSST Architecture 1.0 |
Your Majesty,
I am writing this letter to express my sincere condolences for the tragic events that have unfolded in New Caledonia, particularly the loss of brave and compassionate members of the Polish humanitarian force. New Caledonia has long been a diverse region where the local population strives for greater autonomy from perceived external influences. Thailand, in a similar spirit of solidarity, maintains a contingent of a thousand humanitarian volunteers in New Caledonia. The recent violent actions of insurgent forces advocating for self-determination have raised serious concerns within my government regarding the legitimacy of their cause, given the violent means they have employed.
The Republic of Thailand stands in full solidarity with the Republic of Poland on this sorrowful day for humanity. Despite the medical and essential aid that both our countries have been providing to New Caledonia out of goodwill towards our fellow humans, we are dismayed to witness the deterioration in human decency exemplified by the attacks on humanitarian volunteers by local insurgent forces. We recognize that the Polish humanitarian forces are necessarily armed to protect local civilians from insurgent attacks, a mission that Thailand respects and supports. However, given the hostile attitude expressed by the insurgent forces towards both Thailand and Poland, our unarmed humanitarian volunteers, who have been a lifeline for New Caledonia, now face unprecedented danger.
The Republic Navy has deployed a small but potent carrier strike group approximately one hundred kilometers off the coast of New Caledonia. Thailand is acutely aware of the potential escalation and the risks posed to our humanitarian forces, as well as those from Poland. The Republic Navy stands ready to provide any necessary assistance to the Polish humanitarian forces, with a focus on minimizing collateral damage to civilian populations and property. Thailand is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to intervene directly if necessary to ensure the protection of our humanitarian volunteers.
Please inform us if there is any way in which Thailand can assist Poland. In the spirit of our friendship and the strong bilateral ties between our nations, I extend Thailand's solidarity to Poland.
Sincerely,
Thaksin Shinawatra
Prime Minister
Republic of Thailand
