![]() | ![]() THE CABINET | ![]() |
The Cabinet is the most senior advisory body to the President. The Cabinet is not explicitly named in the Constitution, but "principal officers" are mentioned as heads of executive departments, and they are given some limited responsibilities as a whole. For example, the President can require their written opinion on certain matters and these officials can designate the President as "incapacitated" or otherwise unable to perform his duties. All of the members of the Cabinet, except for the Vice President, serve at the pleasure of the President and can be terminated at any time. Some presidents used their Cabinets extensively while others saw the Cabinet as a vestige. Regardless, the Cabinet includes some of the most senior officials of the United States who assist the President in governing. When the Cabinet is assembled, it meets in The Cabinet Room in the West Wing of the White House.
