Headlines Across Zaire Highlight Amnesty and Buy Back Program as Militants flock to Police Stations to turn in weapons to start a new life

Newspaper headlines and TV news programs are full of images of militants turning over their weapons and registering as citizens of Zaire, all across Zaire. It is reported that in the North Kivu, over 1,000 Militants have already turned over their weapons and taken the Amnesty, providing labor to the ongoing infrastructure projects across the region, as well as offering new employment options at the mining companies, now secured under Police and government control.

Calm and peace as descended across Zaire that has not been seen since before the 2nd Congo War, and the stability is bringing in a new era of optimism across the country. Interviews with former militants and their neighbors highlight the success of the new Mobutu Government in Kinshasa, and the budding opportunities that their close ties with the International world have brought in the area of education.

Private Schools and the Church are also largely standing behind the government as an influx of government money and strong educational laws have seen enrollment boom in schools across the country. While only time will tell if the Mobutu Government in Kinshasa can hold, the mood across the countryside in Zaire tonight is decidedly lighter than it has been for at least a decade.
