Since 1924, Turkey was a democratic republic, created under the guidance of Mustafa Kemal. Mustafa, for his service to the Turkish people, was given the title "Atatürk", The Father Of The Turks. However, due to the increasingly authoritarian style of rule performed by the current president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which has taken on increasingly Ottoman-like proportions, the idea of re-establishing The Ottoman Dynasty proper has taken hold. As a result, a group of monarchists, reactionaries and Islamic modernisers have declared the current government, based in Ankara, as illegitimate, while declaring the current head of the deposed House Of Osman, Süleyman, as the Sultan and Caliph of a renewed Ottoman state in the former Ottoman Capital of Istanbul and its surrounding areas.

The Ottoman Restorationists craft a video, that places their Sultan centre stage, to outline the image for the new Ottoman Sultanate. It features Süleyman, his beard as white as snow, and his face cracked and wrinkled with age, is sat in a simple chair with the Turkish flag, which was actually first used by The Ottoman Empire in 1844, hanging behind him as a backdrop.

"As-salāmu ʿalaykum," He began solemnly. "I humbly present myself to the people of Turkey, and the world, as both the potential head of state for a new Turkey and the steward of a new school of thought regarding the practice of Islam. For those who are unaware, there were three ways of practising Islam. The two most common are Sunni and Shia, while the third, lesser known, school of thought is Kharjite. Everyone, I am sure, is no doubt aware of the suffering caused by those who claim to practise Islam, the prime example being the attack on The United States of America, which claimed the lives of 2,977 innocent lives. I wish to state, unequivocally, that they were sinners, who wilfully broke the rules stated by God in the Quran."

A male figure wearing a plain black hoodie to obscure his features approaches The Sultan with a copy of the holy Islamic text. After handing the book to Süleyman, he attempts to bow submissively, but is stopped by the sultan.

"Do not hold me in reverence, dear child," He states firmly, but kindly, while gently patting the youth's head. "We must remember the text and its reference to the gift God provided to Moses on Mount Sinai; 'Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image'. Holding a mere mortal, such as myself, in such regard is, I am personally certain, a sin. The only example of true piety is God."

The male mumbles an apology and swiftly leaves the shot, permitting The Sultan to return his attention to the camera.

"It is stated in the Quran, chapter 2, verses 190 to 192: 'Fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not commit aggression; God does not love the aggressors. And kill them wherever you overtake them, and expel them from where they had expelled you. Oppression is more serious than murder. But do not fight them at the Sacred Mosque, unless they fight you there. If they fight you, then kill them. Such is the retribution of the disbelievers. But if they cease, then God is Forgiving and Merciful." He recited. "The holy text sanctions violence ONLY in self defence. In the case of our most common example of an Islamic terrorist group, Al-Qaeda, they claimed that their grudge against America stemmed from the 'occupation of the lands containing the holiest mosques'. They were angered by the presence of American troops in Saudi Arabia, where the holiest of Islamic mosques reside, in Medina and Mecca respectively. The issue with this 'reason' to commit atrocities against average blue and white collars workers is the fact that American forces were invited into the country by The King of Saudi Arabia in 1990. There was no invasion or oppression caused by the Americans. As such, the central reason for Al-Qaeda's 'jihad' is based upon a fallacy... A lie."

The Sultan took a moment to let the long monologue sink into its potential viewers before continuing.

"Furthermore, it is stated in the text, chapter 2, verse 62: 'Those who believe, and those who are Jewish, and the Christians, and the Sabeans. Any who believe in God and the Last Day, and act righteously, will have their reward with their Lord; they have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.' In other words, the concept that being a Jew or a Christian means you are a kafir, an unbeliever, is also flawed. God himself set the wheels that would establish Christianity and Judaism in motion, why, therefore, should we victimise those who worship the God we worship, when God himself declared to them how they should worship him? Are we to suggest that we, Muslims, know better than God himself? I should say not."

Süleyman adjusts his position in the chair for comfort and breathes a light sigh of relief.

"I have been given the privilege of being the Caliph of the fourth school of thought for Islam, Altariq Alraabie. That translates, roughly, into English as 'Fourth Way'. It is a school of thought that seeks to stick to the basics of Islam. It does not rely on the rules and customs derived from hadith, stories passed down throughout centuries regarding the behaviour of God's messenger. I am aware that this question will cause deep derision and hatred from the orthodox Islamic community, but ask yourself this; if the hadith came about as stories, observation and rumour, how can we be certain of its accuracy? As such, we, Altariq Alraabie Muslims, follow the Quran alone. I am truly humbled that those who have listened to me so far have been this patient. It warms my heart that you have permitted me the time to state the feelings and motivations of the group I represent. We do not wish to quarrel, nor do we wish to seek out violence, however we will not hesitate to defend ourselves, as is the right of not just Muslims, but humans of all races, colours and creeds, if we are oppressed by others. I beg President Erdoğan to step down from his post, reverse the course that Turkey is taking due to his direction, because if you do not, I fear it will result in a true uprising instigated by the average Turk seeking the restoration of the justice and freedom created by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk."

The Bosnian Government would recognize the Sultan as being the Turkish head of state and would grant him along with his fanily honourary citizen and the right to reside within Bosnia-Herzegovina freely.

Despite an increase in German–on–Muslim hatred within the past decade, Angela Merkel would announce her support for Süleyman, stating that,
"He is a man that seems to understand that the world is not simply one's playground anymore, but all of our playgrounds. We must learn to coexist and learn by civilization's rules if we are to play happily together, lest we end up the same as the 3rd or 4th Reichs, & other authoritarian, tyrannical regimes."

In response to the announcement made by Sultan Süleyman, President Erdoğan calls a press conference from the lavish Presidential Complex that he resides in to state his response to the video.

Ak_Saray_-_Presidential_Palace_Ankara_2014_002.jpg

"It is abundantly clear that the deposed House Of Osman seeks to reestablish 'the good old days'," He declared indignantly. "Unfortunately, they seem to be unaware that this is 2012, not 1850. As such, he is little more than a crackpot Islamist that's of a similar calibre to the leaders of Al-Qaeda. Therefore, I have requested that The Jandarma and army prepare to retake Istanbul by force. No quarter can be given to terrorists and inciters of rebellion against me! As for the declaration of support made by Bosnia, consider yourself an enemy of The Turkish People. The fact that you dare to recognise an old man, instead of me, is nothing short of an insult to Turkey! The Bosnian nation is the blatant supporter of terrorists that deserve nothing less than to be hung from the nearest tree!"

Istanbul, Turkey

As night fell across the city that was once the seat of The Ottoman and Byzantine Empires, the troops moved in to 'retake' the city from its 'terrorists'. However, there were no Islamists crying "Allahu-Akbar" with AK-47's. The only sign of dissent in the city was a line of Turkish citizens, arms linked together, singing "Mahmudiye Marşı", The March Of Mahmud, that blocked the road to The Hagia Sophia Mosque.

hagia-sophia-night.png

As such, there was no contest regarding who would win if fighting broke out. In keeping with the central tenets of Altariq Alraabie, the crowd had not armed themselves. They were here to peacefully prevent the troops from approaching the famous mosque. Suddenly, gunfire broke the silence of the night, followed by the panicked screams of the protesters. Blood poured from the gaping holes of the innocent, the wounds caused by heavy calibre weapons from armoured cars and personnel carriers. Viscera and mutilated corpses littered the street, while the bullets fired only finished their flight when they embedded themselves into the walls of The Hagia Sophia.

Turkey.jpg

Meanwhile, the local radio station was invaded by soldiers, allowing them to broadcast a simple message across the city.

"Citizens of Istanbul, you are ordered to leave the streets immediately. Failure to do so will result in you being considered a potential supporter of the terrorist, Süleyman, and shot without hesitation. This city is now under martial law. Anyone found to be harbouring supporters of Süleyman, or Süleyman himself, will be treated in the same manner that they will be treated."

The German government would be horrified by the events that had transpired. Temporary President Lambert would immediately call for the government to take action, and Chancellor Merkel would immediately call for the temporary leave of all consulate–general & Embassy Personnel until a time when the Turkish government was solidified and in control.

The Bosnian Government would offer supporters of the house of Osman refuge at the Bosnian embassy along with the right of political asylum.

President Izetbegovic criticized the Turkish dictators response to peaceful protests in Istanbul. "Ladies and Gentlemen on this night the Turkish government showed the world in a totalitarian fashion just how ironic its claims that Turkey is in 2012 not 1850 clearly the events taking place on the streets would indicate otherwise. Turkey's blatant disregard should be considered proof of just how antiquated its current regime really is. Bosnia therefore has no choice but to cease recognition of the Turkish Republic opting instead for the Ottoman cause." In Bosnia crowds gathered to show their solidarity with the house of Osman shouting "Enough!"

All Filipino tourists, expats, and investors, shall immediately leave Turkey upon the instruction of the Philippine Embassy in Ankara.

The Philippine Embassy in Ankara's Ambassador Mrs. Grace Princesa would instruct all her staffs to pack up and return back to the Philippines until further advised by the Department of Foreign Affairs. The Philippine Consulates in Izmir, Gaziantep, and Mersin will also close down and return back to the Philippines.

Both the Turkish government and the Ottoman party would be informed that the diplomatic staff would be leaving the city, heading to Ankara, in diplomatic vehicles marked with diplomatic licenses and Dutch flags. They would wait for a response, hoping that safe travel would be guaranteed by both parties.

Direct flights from Norway to Turkey were cancelled, and a travel advisory was placed on the country. Citizens in Turkey were urged to leave the country as quickly as possible. All Norwegian consulates and the embassy were closed. All diplomatic staff were recalled back home to Norway. It was publicly announced that the government would pay for the travel of any Norwegian who was stranded in Turkey.

"Ladies and gentlemen of Turkey, I present to you the threat posed by our 'allies'!" President Erdoğan declared in a public address that responded to a damning report made by German media outlets. "Already, we see our actions deplored by the Germans, Dutch, Filipinos and Bosnians. They say that protecting our democracy from the threat of violent revolution is wrong, they flee when the police and army arrive to ensure their safety, and run into the open arms of the terrorists and Ottomans. Well, we are grateful that they have revealed their misguided allegiances. Indeed, we have made it clear to the German foreign minister that we do not offer the hand of friendship to those who support Turkey's enemies. On the contrary, we snatch it away and turn our back upon them. Why should we offer them what they are unwilling to offer us?"

All nations and their embassies within Turkey are sent a message from the Republican foreign ministry stating that they have every right to withdraw from Turkey, if they saw fit. If they require assistance in doing so, they merely need to ask, and it will be provided. In regards to The Dutch Consulate General, he receives a response stating that, if he believes it necessary, armed Turkish military units will escort the Dutch embassy personnel out of Istanbul.

A new video is posted online by Sultan Süleyman. The ageing head of The Osman Dynasty, at first, struggles to speak due to the overwhelming sadness within him. A hooded figure approaches the grieving Sultan and hands him a handkerchief, which he gratefully accepts and wipes his tearful eyes.

"I'm sorry," He began weakly. "I feel like my own children have been murdered before my eyes, yet the innocent lives who were cut down by gunfire bore no relation to me."

Süleyman took a moment to quietly weep for the lives ended by Republican forces, ignoring the camera recording every second of his torment. Eventually, he took a deep breath and looked into the lens.

"I received a communique from The Dutch Consulate General," He stated, while retrieving a piece of paper from his jacket pocket. "It explains that due to the sudden burst of violence in Istanbul, they will be withdrawing their embassy staff from the city towards Ankara. I applaud the Dutch government for being so swift and cautious. I feel that it is my duty to urge the governments that have citizens or diplomatic personnel in Turkey to take action now."

Ominously, The Sultan leaned towards the camera.

"I beg of you to run," He said, his eyes sparkling with fear. "Take the opportunity, while you still can, do not look back, do not hesitate. If President Erdoğan is willing to kill his own people, he, clearly, won't have any qualms with harming your own people. To all the foreign nationals of Turkey, I urge, beg and beseech you to take flight. You are no longer safe here. I, and the people seeking to reestablish my dynasty as monarchs of Turkey, have no quarrel with you, on the contrary, we do not wish to see more innocent blood spilt now, or ever. Even if your government doesn't ask that you leave, I beg of you to head home anyway, I fear that there will be great peril if you choose to remain... And I, as a mere mortal, do not have to power to save you, even though I would do everything in my power to try."

Sighing heavily, The Sultan leaned back into the comfort of his chair.

"However, I do ask of everyone to think of one thing," He murmured. "The foreigners in Turkey will be able to flee to places beyond the reach of the sinner and tyrant, but spare a thought for The Turks. For our home is also the home of the despot. We are trapped in the jaws of the beast that seeks to consume us. However, we will survive, we will be strong... May God be with those that will hopefully heed my words and flee, and may God be with us that must stay to weather the storm of oppression."

Much like in Canada the Chinese government would urge for both sides to seek dialogue and to avoid the blood of innocents being shed. As there were significantly fewer Chinese here, full diplomatic missions would not be needed. As a result all non-essential personnel from the Consulate-General in Istanbul would be evacuated and only this facility would be locked down and only allow Chinese citizens to enter. The embassy in Ankara and Consulate-General in Izmir would also see non-essential personnel being evacuated but these facilities remained open to the public as the security situation was not bad enough yet to justify more measures.

The Bosnian Government would once more request that the head of the house of Osman flee Turkey to continue the fight for freedom from abroad. many Bosniaks have stated that they support the Sultan and would be more than happy to act as his host should he arrive on Bosnian soil.

The Federal Republic of the Philippines, through the Department of Foreign Affairs, would thank the incumbent Turkish government for ensuring the safety of all Filipinos exiting Turkey. Furthermore, the Federal Republic of the Philippines would address to Turkey in general (and not to any faction/organization) that while it does not take sides, the Philippines wishes the Turkish people to remain strong and resilient, regardless of what outcome this ongoing revolution will be.

The Federal Republic of the Philippines would also ask the Secretary General of the Global Assembly to intervene or to give permission to the Philippine government to deploy it's Peacekeeping Force (AFP-PKOC) to Turkey to help stabilize the situation. The Philippine government also pledged humanitarian aid to the Turkish people if requested.

Furthermore, the Federal Republic of the Philippines would also advise the Bosnian government to refrain from "further instigating" the other faction (referring to the House of Osman) as their recent statement actually does not help Turkey at all but rather makes their current situation worse.

To whom it may concern,

I am outraged to find that you have seen fit to, if one wishes to use very visual language, stick your beak into business that is not yours to meddle in. The fact that you have sent a formal request to The Global Assembly to, quite literally, invade us under the guise of "peacekeeping" is monstrous! Suffice to say, I wish to make it abundantly clear that if I, or my government, gets even a hint of Filipino interference in Turkish affairs, we will not hesitate to interpret it as an act of aggression.

As such, I demand that you withdraw your plea to The Global Assembly and, for the foreseeable future, have nothing to do with Turkey. I can state with absolute authority that we do not want, or need, your "help". If we wished to be conquered by you and turned into a Filipino colony, we'd have asked you.

Seeing that the paranoid Turkey has maligned Philippines’ genuine intention to help Turkey through a peacekeeping mission (and even offered them humanitarian aid), Philippines’ will publicly retract its offer to help Turkey as well as retract its previous statement for the Global Assembly to intervene.

On a mental note, President Duterte would not care of what will happen to the Turks and that they could go fuck themselves.

(No OOC here, President Duterte is actually known for his profanity in RL).

The Kingdom of Singapore would openly speak out against President Erdogan and his cruel firing upon civilians. King Wei personally speaks up to the press in order to urge the international community for a louder response in regards to Erdogan and his disgraceful actions as the President of a so-called 'Republic'. Humanitarian aid is openly offered to the Monarchists in the form of provisions -- both food and medical -- as well as an immediate recognition of the Ottoman monarch over Erdogan's human-rights violating government.

Another video from the Ottoman Monarchists is uploaded to YouTube and other social media sites. Unlike the last few, a new face, wearing full Turkish Navy uniform, is in the shot.
Mustafa%20Zeki%20Ugurlu.png
"Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Mustafa Zeki Ugurlu, a former Tümamiral, or Rear Admiral, of The Turkish Navy. I have taken the place of His Majesty, Sultan Süleyman, in this video due to him being compelled to pay full attention to matters I am unable to discuss. As for why I'm a former flag officer of the navy... I decided, after becoming aware of 'President' Erdoğan's slaughter of innocent civilians, that it was not morally correct to continue serving him. This video, therefore, counts as my official resignation from The Republican Navy, effective immediately. My allegiance is now firmly with that of The Sultan, not because I'm a supporter of the monarchy, nor am I a religious individual, but the fact that he, unlike The President, has acted in a manner more befitting of a benevolent statesman. Indeed, if given the choice between an absolute monarchy, where a single man had the power of life, death, and everything in between, over me... And a full-fledged democracy... I would choose an absolute monarchy under Sultan Süleyman. After having spoken to him personally, I have yet to meet a man as humble, noble and selfless as him. Before any critics get the idea of saying I'm currently under duress... I can state with certainty that I am not."

The admiral then stood up and reached behind him. With a flash of steel, he revealed that he was still in possession of the sword a naval officer is given.

"This is the sword bestowed upon me by the now very much dead Republic," He stated. "Now, it, and its owner, dedicates themselves to The Sultan. I stand before you as the interim Prime Minister of a Provisional Ottoman Government. For those who wish to help our cause, I ask you to be patient. We do not wish to seek open bloodshed on the streets and fields of Turkey. Enough blood was spilt in 1924 during the war for independence. For now, continue your lives as normal, I know such a request is unusual, since the false President is still in power, but I assure you that when we take steps to achieve justice for the unarmed civilians who were mercilessly slaughtered without provocation, they will be swift and certain."

@Dragon of Bosnia
Meanwhile, Sultan Süleyman, along with his family, were being driven in total secrecy to the Bosnian embassy. Hiding in the back of a clapped-out van, The Sultan explained to his family, which included his wife, children and grandchildren, that he had arranged for them to be taken to safety in Bosnia. Unfortunately, he would not be accompanying them.

"Why, father?" Süleyman's son, Mustafa, enquired angrily. "Let me stay and help you remove the evil Erdoğan from power!"
Mustafa.png
The ageing sultan silenced his son with just a single raised hand.

"Because I would have failed as a father," He replied softly. "In the event that you were found by Erdoğan loyalists, it is certain that you would be imprisoned or killed. What father would allow their child to be in such peril? No, you must stay and look after the family."

Defeated, Mustafa sighed and made no protest as the van pulled up outside of the Bosnia embassy. As soon as the driver checked to make sure the coast was clear, the family quickly rushed out of the van and into the safety of the embassy. The Sultan approached the reception desk, his gait slow and awkward due to needing a cane to walk.

"I wish to speak to the person in charge of this particular establishment, if you have the time," He requested solemnly. "I'm afraid I can't say why, since it's possibly a matter of life and death for those I hold dear."
