From Gerald Monahan, Foreign Minister of Èire
To Karsten Jürke, Foreign Minister of Germany

Your Excellency, my country's government would like to discuss the possibility of reinstating diplomatic relations with the German Reich as well as the end of the previous administration's embargo on trade.

Furthermore, let ir be said, that the destiny of the Irish people has always more or less been bound to Germany's successes and that it was Germany that provided Èire with the means to secure her freedom from the forces of imperial oppression in 1916.

My country is awaiting your reply and it is my hope that we might be able to obtain a new beginning or clean slaint.

Sincerely,
Gerald Monahan

Herr Monahan,

After careful deliberations and discussions with the Reich Chancellor, I think that, before we even consider setting up a clean slate with Ireland and letting bygones be bygones, we need to understand your previous government's reasoning for support of the South American belligerents over that of your country's or European interests. It is something that has concerned us greatly regarding the Irish diplomatic policies as of late, thanks to the fact that it was a decision that seemingly came out of the blue, with no real support to back up such a drastic shift from neutrality to condemning our nation. I do, however, look forward to hearing a response and, perhaps, gaining better insight to the diplomatic policy of Ireland prior to your government and now.

Regards,
Karsten Jürke

Fair enough, your excellency, the previous administration was lead to believe that playing off the South Americans against our fellow Europeans would be beneficial to maintaining the balance of power and Èire's neutrality. Currently, the new administration is reconsidering the rationale behind the previous government's policy towards Argentina and Brazil. The decision to implement an embargo was the result of public outcry against German actions against Brazillian diplomatic officials. Parliament has yet to repeal the embargo on German products.

Sincerely,
Gerald Monahan

Herr Monahan,

Neutrality is taking neither side in a conflict. As much as I would like to believe your story stating that your previous administration had thought to retain its neutral stance, I can tell you that true neutrality would have been to either do nothing at all, or to condemn both nations for their actions; it has either lied to your general public on what it wants, or you are not telling the full truth. While I am happy that the new administration has been reconsidering its allegiances with South America, the point still stands that your foreign policy does not reflect what your government has stated in the past, including the Free Territory that you so desperately cling to. Therefore, I have no choice but to refer to such actions as hypocritical, and dishonest with the general public, no matter the truth behind such motivation.

If you wish to reinstate diplomatic relations, feel free to start doing so on your own terms, and we will reciprocate in kind. If you wish to lift the embargo, feel free to do so. However, I will only reciprocate the rebuilding of relations; every single detriment to our relationship has been the fault of the Irish government, and therefore, it is the Irish government's job to fix it, just as it was ours to attempt to decrease tensions with South America before their far more "aggressive" streak. I await your reply...

Sincerely,
Karsten Jürke
