The IRC SPARROW INDUSTRIES GRAND PRIX OF INDIA has left us with a new race winner. For the first time Douglas Dwyer managed to score not only a podium but a race win, bringing also the first race title to Quantas Motorsport. Although far away from the top positions in the Constructors Championhip, the australian team showed us today that they are growing and hould be taken into account in the coming seasons.
Aside from the suprising aussi, P2, P3 and P4 were held by the usual suspects, Jenna Spitzer brought some vital 18 points back to Germany, to keep them in the fight for the title, while Ferrari close the podium with Trulli on P3, but also accompanied by Fisichella on P8, giving the italian team a double pointer that, just like Sparrow, keeps them in the fight for the title with 3 races remaining. Barely missing the podium, Barichello nevertheless gave his team a good amount of points to keep them at the top of the COnstructors Championship, and for the first time in the season on positions 1 and 2 of the Driver Championship.
Local Mumbai F1 Team had a very good race, improving on their last performances with a first time double pointer with Goshi on P6 and Chabra on ?7. A1 Korea also once again did his job and put Kunha Yi on P5, to keep climbing in the championship ranking.
The last few points went to Argentina witn Tuero on P9 and Canada with Bern on P10.
Alpine confirmed the decline of the last few races and seems to be loosing the pace necesary to win the title, being surpasse by Ferrari in the race for the consturctors title.
With 3 races remaining, and the Grand Finale in Brazil... who will win the 1998 title? Antarctica, Sparrow or Ferrari?
A classic GP in Australia, where Antarctica seems to have gotten a very very safe lead towards the alst 2 races of the year. Sparrow Racing, the only runner up, needs to increase its game if they still want to hope for the title, while only a miracle can give Alpine and Ferrari the lead. Or a catastrphic race in Argentina and Brazil for Antarctica.
Australia was yet another shoe on why Antarctica and Barichello are the reigning World Champions. Mumbai Racing F1 surprised us with a podium on P2 and ALpine seems to be getting back some of the form it showed during the firt races of the year. The rest of the points were distributed among multiple teams, mostly from the mid-pack teams, with Sparrow only snatching a P5 with Spitzer, much less than what they really need. Lofthus on P6 also brought back some points, while Anker managed a two-pointer finish and A1 Korea keeps its results within the points.
Argentina will possibly be the place that will determine wheter the brazilians will manage to repeat their double title, Drivers and Constructors, and the race at Interlagos might just be a huge party for them.
