How it works​

Each nation will have the opportunity to participate. In individual events, athletes compete as individuals regardless of their nation which means a nation can have multiple athletes/medal in an event. In team events, the rules vary and are explained further. The top three per event will be determined using a computer randomiser with each athlete getting 1 slot in the randomiser. Each athlete will cost $1,000,000 to send. Money will be collected into an independent International Olympic Committee account that will hold the money for constructing infrastructure for future events and for prize money. You will have to choose which events you wish to participate in and how many athletes you will be sending. The team rules are as followed: Sports such as Ice Hockey and Curling will have a set amount of athletes (20 for Ice Hockey, 5 for Curling) in order to form one team per country per gender (i.e. one men's and one women's ice hockey team). Sports such as Bobsleigh will only be done in multiples of two. For every 4 Bobsleigh athletes, they will make a four-man team along with 2 two-man teams. Sports such as Short Track Speed Skating, Nordic Combined, Figure Skating, Luge, Ski Jumping, Cross-Country Skiing and Biathlon which have individual and team events will have a minimum number required (4, except for 2 in figure skating and luge) in order to qualify for team events (same athletes used for both individual and team). All sports except Figure Skating and Luge will be limited to one team but there is no limit to the amount of athletes you can send for those sports to increase your chances in individual events. Every two figure skaters of different genders will create a pair for the pair events though there is no requirement for multiples of two unlike Bobsleigh because there are individual events. There are no "applications", just a form to indicate your participation in the event. You will be given an invoice for the costs. External territories of countries are allowed to participate seperately (i.e. U.S. Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Greenland, etc). Additional training (slots in the randomiser) can be purchased for solely team events (Ice Hockey and Curling) at a cost of $5,000,000 per slot per team. Additional training cannot be purchased for other sports as they have unlimited numbers of athletes (more athletes will increase your chances of winning medals). Prize money will be issued at the end of the event and is to be determined by the IOC. All sports have male and female competitions except for pair events in Figure Skating which must be pairs of the opposite sex. You will need to indicate how many men and how many women you are sending per sport in your form.

To the Right Honorable International Olympic Committee,

The Newly Independent Republic of Ukraine would very much like to participate in the prestigious Olympics this year, however, we cannot in good conscious apply when regulations discriminate against athletes on the basis of sex. I am speaking, of course, in reference to two rules. First, that the Luge event is limited to men only. While we understand that in the interest of fairness, with consideration to differences in physical anatomy, some events are to be divided into men's and women's completions, we object to the complete omission of a women's luge event. The only explanation we can think of for this rule is that the Japanese Olympics has dubbed it inappropriate for women to wear the same suits that men wear when participating in this sport. Ukraine does not believe women's bodies are inappropriate, nor do we believe it's inappropriate for women to wear the same clothing as men--be it luge suits, pants, etc.

Our second objection is in reference to the rule that "two figure skaters of different genders will create a pair." Why cannot a woman and a woman form a pair when this specific Olympic event is already mixed?

The goal of the Olympics has always been to promote international friendships. Well, Ukraine is not a nation of only men. For friendship to form between nations, citizens of both sexes must be respected. We request that changes be made to the above specified rules, or Ukraine must boycott this year's Olympic Games.

Konnichiwa Kalynets-san, We have heard your concerns and have made the relevant changes to the schedule. Women will now be able to participate in all sports and there are women's and men's events for every single event in every single sport with the exception of Figure Skating. Figure Skating pairs is a very intimate competition and it would not be appropriate to cultural standards to allow same-sex pairs to compete. We must take into account the deep conservative values that many Japanese people hold and we are not in a position to offend them or the many other places in the world that do not find that sort of behaviour acceptable. Japan is rather proud of its sport of sumo wrestling, is it not? It is deeply engrained in your cultural heritage. It is my understanding that, in this prestigious contest, two foes stand naked before each other. Again and again they slam their powerful bodies together in a tight embrace, neither willing to release. The force of each impact ripples through muscle and slapping skin as they flex their meaty arms and thick thighs. Glistening with perspiration, salty sweat drips onto their lips. At times they sway as if they are but one creature...

I do not understand why two women, fully clothed against the cold, are not allowed to perform an ice-skating routine featuring an innocent, sisterly embrace?
