Dear Foreign Minister of Japan,

It is the Gillard Government's intention to foster close and prosperous relations with all the nations of the region, in particular in North Asia. I would like to visit Tokyo as soon as possible as part of a broader North Asia Tour incorporating Japan, Korea and China. I will fly on an RAAF VIP jet to Tokyo-Haneda, accompanied by the Minister for Trade, The Honourable Simon Crean, and then we can begin a series of meetings to discuss trade, defence and other areas in which Japan and Australia can collaborate. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

I will fly on an RAAF VIP jet to Hong Kong, accompanied by the Minister for Trade, The Honourable Simon Crean, and then we can begin a series of meetings to discuss trade and other areas in which Hong Kong and Australia and Macau and Australia can collaborate.
