Brazil - Ireland Meeting

Top Secret Mission to Ireland by Brazilian Defense Minister Oscar de Silva.

No press coverage. Only the Brazilian President and his brother, Juan, Foreign Minister know he is in Ireland.

He arrives in Dublin on a commercial jet, flying first class along with two bodyguards. Using diplomatic pouches the two bodyguards smuggle through their weapons, each carrying a Glock 17, full magazine with a bullet in the chamber and two more clips. Minister DeSilva's cellphone and laptop are encrypted.

They go through the diplomatic customs and each bodyguard retrieves their weapons and shoves them inside their suit jackets as they walk to the main entrance gate, ignoring the taxi's and touts, looking for one black SUV, that will stand out, but blend in at the same time.

2 men wearing trenchcoats and aviators were notified of the arrival of the Brazilians upon Irish soil. They slowly approached their foreign counterparts. "Welcome to Ireland, your excellency. The minister of defense has dispatched me and my partner here....he says we have business to do in a few areas."

"Yes, we have much to discuss. Do you have a vehicle that can transport my colleagues and I to your Defence Ministry?"

"Yes, your excellency, right this way." The two men would walk the defense minister to a vintage mustang which was painted in a pristine St. Patrick's blue. "Its a little old but it runs and is quite reliable for our current purpose..."

"Quite perfect, in fact, for the task at hand." Minister DeSilva would climb in alongside one of his bodyguards who would sit next to him, while the other would sit in the front passenger seat. "Perhaps along the way we could discuss something off the books."

"Glad to see that me and my colleagie could be of service to you, Mr. DeSilva. On the subject of discussions off the books, I am more than happy to engage and hear you out." One of the two Irishmen said cheerfully.

"How about we continue the conversation at the Defence Ministry. No offense, but a deal worth potentially billions of dollars will not be made over a pint. So, Please. Just get us to the Defence Ministry."

The men would heed his advice and proceed to drive like hell to minister of defense's office. "Agreed...lets roll!"

"Trust me, once all of this is over. The pints of Guinness and shots of Jameson will be on the house, courtesy of the Brazilian government. We could of course go to O'Neill's, but I prefer a nice "local", and get a nice stew in as well.

However, gentleman, the proposals we are about to discuss could irrevocably change the course of Irish history, for the better of course. Brazil, wants to be a part of that. But it is imperative we do everything at the ministry, and as soon as possible. There are other factors at play here that I cannot divulge at the moment. Not to keep you in the dark, but as I am receiving moment to moment updates from my government.

Lead me into the ministry of defense immediately upon our arrival and have the meeting set up. I can deliver a speech as soon as I walk in the door."

The two Irishmen smiled with a sense of glee. "Thank You, we owe you one. Our salary isn't much at least as far as buying booze is concerned. Nevertheless, to the defense ministry!" Half an hour later they arrived at the minister of defense's office on the far side of Dublin. It was here that the Brazillian was greeted by his Irish counterpart. "Hello...Again, Mr. DeSilva, Your Excellency I trust that you have had a smooth and relatively safe journey to Ireland?" He asked inquistively as he opened the gateway.

"Well, I know where I am heading before I head back to Brazil, that is for sure," he laughs. "Or, if this deal works out like I expect it to, I will just become the European Liaison Officer and retire here. But that is for later. For now, let's get back into the exporting of weapons business. Now onto the conference room. We have much to discuss."

Moments later in a top secret conference room that Minister DeSilva has been assured is clear of bugs, he sits down at a table, whips out a laptop and begins.

"So I see you have received 200 MSS-1.2 Personal Rocket Launcher's. Those things are tank killers. We can also have them double mounted on our version of the HUMVEE. But that is for later. And I see you have received 100 Elbit Hermes 450's.

This is all fine and good, but they are merely stop gap measures of a militia group. The Republic of Ireland Defence Forces will be no militia group. We can guarantee your Republic's sovereignty for generations to come in this meeting alone."

Minister Cosgrave would lead DeSilva to the conference room of his office. "Yes, indeed we have recieved the 200 MS 1-2 Launchers and after a few tests in the field were pleasantly surprised at the level of efficency when dealing with targets on the ground." He said calmly while sipping his tea. "At the moment would could use a few shipments of battle rifles for our infantry, namely the Brazilian variant of the FAL....of which we have experience using going back almost 40 something years ago on the field of battle."

"Excellent, news. Yes, the MSS 1.2's are fine weapons, and will be able to take out any enemy tank that may threaten you.

Our IMBEL IA2 goes for $1000 dollars per weapon. How many would you like to procure? And also what are you thinking in terms of the size of your armed forces overall?

We also have 100 K2 Black Panthers. It is the finest Main battle tank in the world. They are South Korean made, but as that government is in chaos it is fine for us to ship them to you. Coupled with say 400 K21 IFV's, you would have ten motorized infantry battalions. Add 1500 VBMT-LR's all purpose vehicles and you would have an armoured force to be reckoned with.

Normally this package would cost over 5 billion dollars with export mark ups. But, we are going to sell them to you for 3.5 billion. We still feel the Astros MLRS systems are vital, but let us know how you feel about this proposal first."

"Indeed they shall and with a powerful neighbor to our north, this should come in handy for defensive actions against enemy concentrations of armour. With regards to IMBEL IA2, I would like to acquire at least 35,000 for the army along with the specified armoured vehicles. So far the purposal looks very satisfying."

"Excellent, we will get started on those items immediately. The Astros II MLRS system has many variants. The Astros 2020 can fire four cruise missiles that has a range of 300km. If you have an aggressive neighbour, these missiles will make them think twice. As, with little warning, there is virtually no defence against a cruise missile. We usually put them into batteries of six. We will include the radar and the rocket resupply trucks.

A single unit, cost four million a piece, and each missile is one million. So a battery of six will cost you 24 million, and 12 missiles per uint or 72 missiles per battery, would make each battery be the total sum of 96 million per battery. That is just the Astros 2020. Other variants are more defensive in nature, but let's lock down how many batteries you would like of the 2020 first before we move on."

The defense minister seemed amazed beyond words as his Brazillian counterpart spilled the beans. "Sounds absolutely marvelous, perhaps the army would prefer at least 3 batteries just for good measure should war break out between us and our neighbors to the north." He paused. "Your Excellency, might I interest you in a cup of tea before we continue our discussion?" He asked politely knowing that it must be quite cold out.

"Tea, would be excellent," the Minister would respond. "Now, we are talking just about 3.8 billion worth of purchases. And we have not even mentioned the other ASTROS' models. Or naval equipment for that matter. But as far as naval equipment I would like you to look at the Super Dvora MkIII Patrol Boat. It would be perfect for coastal and EEZ defence. That being said, I would like to move the discussion in another direction. With all of this military equipment coming into Ireland's hands, would you like to propose on how would like to train your men with these new weapons?'

"Marvelous...I'll send for two cups and a shot of whiskey." He said pleasantly. "The Dvora sounds ideal for any such situation that may arise should there be issues with either Britain or France. I purpose that my men be trained in both conventional and guerrilla oriented tactics." He paused. "Is there anyway, you could by chance send an extra ship of arms....my government has considered arming the Irish Republican Army in order to stir up covert trouble in Northern Ireland."

"Well, as you already have production rights, it would be faster for you to produce assault rifles than for us to produce them in Brazil and ship them. We would be able to however produce up to 1000 120mm M2 RAIADO Heavy Rifled Mortar an dit could be in Ireland with in three to four days as they are already produced and just need to be shipped.

As far as training, where do you suppose my troops could stay? We would probably need to send a battalion of about 800 Marines, and a few squads of armoured artillery specialists, as well as armor and mechanics techs. Perhaps we could rent a base for up to six months? Build it up, make it a strong-hold of sorts. We will send our 1st Marine Battalion, 1st Brigade, which has seen action in French Guiana, and in Nigeria against the Boko Haram."
