Appeal to Poland
Private & Encrypted

To: Jerzy Buzek, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Poland
From: Than Shwe, Chairman of the Union of Myanmar

Your Excellency,

I hope I am writing to you in good health and mind as I write this seeking urgent assistance and solidarity in a matter of upmost urgency.

As you may have heard by now, Thailand has, in a blatant violation of international law, deployed armed troops into Myanmar with the intention of destabilizing our nation. I do not have to point out what precedent this sets and you surely will not be surprised that the Myanmar military has captured and placed these Thai troops under arrest to secure the fragile stability currently standing in the nation. These troops will be placed before a court, will be judged, and will face justice for their crimes before being returned to Thailand.

However, Thailand and its government is attempting to use the arrest of these troops as a pretext to further escalate hostilities and potentially begin an invasion of our sovereign territory. Similar to how they've done when they invaded Cambodia under weak goals and when they attempted to annex the islands of Caledonia under a fake "humanitarian mission." This is a grave and unjustifiable action, one that the free world cannot allow to transpire without protest.

Poland is a nation that knows the woes of foreign imperialism all too well: Prussians, Russians, Swedish, and the Nazis. It is therefore my hopes that you would agree to have your government cease all military cooperation and sale of military equipment to the nation of Thailand to diminish Thailand's aggressive actions against our innocent nation and any future state that they use to turn into victims.

I look forward to your reply.

Kindest Regards,
Than Shwe
Chairman
Union of Myanmar

Chairman Shwe,

Your message does indeed arrive to find myself in good health and mind. I hope the same can be said to yourself, though I understand the mind must be troubled regarding the topic of conversation we are having.
You are correct in assuming that we were aware of the arrest of five Thai soldiers that had illegally crossed the border into Myanmar, allegedly under orders of the Thai government. We have also assumed, ourselves, that the five soldiers would be facing criminal trial within Myanmar where they would face judgement for their transgressions against the Government of the Union of Myanmar. We must urge caution to your government in the judgement these soldiers will face for their crimes. While I understand the charges they most likely face could be considered espionage and treason of some sort, I must urge you to consider taking the death penalty of of the table for these soldiers. If it is true, and they were under orders of the Thai government, it is not their fault for crossing the border into a recognized nation. The fault would be with the Thai government.

In regards to the threat of invasion from Thailand in retaliation for the arrest of these soldiers, I can understand the fear. Thailand is currently amassing an army that would rival the United States if our sources are correct. The New Caledonia issue was resolved peacefully and the Cambodia issue, while it was not solved peacefully, did end in favor of the Cambodian people, did it not? If it is true, and Thailand attempts an invasion or another incursion into the sovereign territory of Myanmar, Poland will be the first to attempt to dissuade them.

I will say that Poland has taken a step back from Thailand after the assassination of Egyptian Diplomat Mustafa Asker and are working on diplomatic routes to fix the issue arising there. Poland is indeed a nation with first hand knowledge of imperialist nations and their ideologies. We will continue our diplomatic efforts with Thailand to stem these imperialistic ideals from overtaking their culture but I must ask one thing in return. As a sign of good faith, allow the five Thai soldiers to face trial on neutral territory led by a neutral party, this way Thailand cannot say that the trial was rigged by your government. Poland has a history of fairness and would be able to cast a fair and unbiased judgement on those poor souls should the entirety of the information be revealed during the court case.
Sincerely,

Jerzy Buzek
Prime Minister
Kingdom of Poland

Your Excellency,

With all due respect, it matters not how "peacefully" a situation was resolved when said situation should not have happened to begin with. Thailand attempted to annex Caledonia, Thailand pushed troops into Cambodia, and people died. That's what matters—innocent lives.

Thailand has shipped a fleet of 18-20 vessels into our territorial waters and with threat of invasion on the horizon, we've had no choice but to amass troops on the Myanmar-Thai border to defend ourselves. In you are truthful in your promise of dissuasion, please attempt to do so now for soon, there may be no more room to do so.

We will not be judging the Thai soldiers until this entire situation is resolved. If that means they must remain in a cell for a year from now, so be it. But let it be know that under Myanmar law they are facing up to 14 years without parole for espionage charges.

Kindest Regards,
Than Shwe
Chairman
Union of Myanmar

Chairman Shwe,

I understand the situation you are in and the heightened emotions that come from this. As you state before, Poland is keenly aware of what happens when imperialistic forces attempt to assert their dominance over another nation. I, myself, fought the Soviets within the Solidarity movement a long time ago. And I agree. Poland's stance has been the protection of innocent lives since the formation of the 3rd Polish Republic, before the Kingdom was even reborn. Poland has initiated high level talks with several foreign governments to attempt to prevent this crisis from evolving and destabilizing the region even further.
Poland fully supports a nation in defending their citizens from foreign aggression and are keenly aware that the political side of things requires time but we are working as fast as we can to resolve the situation without resorting to stationing a Polish fleet between Thailand and Myanmar. If it comes down to it, Poland is not opposed to enforcing a ceasefire.
Sincerely,

Jerzy Buzek
Prime Minister
Kingdom of Poland
