I have the honour to re-affirm the strong bonds that exist between the Kingdom of Canada and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Our two nations share a sacred bond developed throughout the Second World War. Our nation continues to honour the sacrifices made by those brave Canadian servicemen whose blood was spilled on Dutch soil.

With your nation's recent governance transition, my government aims to re-forge the bond between our two nations. I believe the first step would be to re-establish communications between our governments. Therefore, I wish to present Ingrid Peeters, our current charge de affaire at the embassy in Ottawa, as our candidate for ambassador. I kindly request that she may be able to present her letter of credence to His Majesty the King at his convenience. Should this not be possible at this time, I would be happy to have my office forward the letter of credence to the relevant departments so that Ms Peeters can begin to fulfil her duty as ambassador.

I furthermore hope that she will be able to meet with a member of your government to begin preliminary discussions on finding topics of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Your Excellency,

It is with great heartfelt gratitude that I receive your esteemed letter. The legacy between our nations is one we have not forgotten. It brings us great honor to have helped your people and nation push out the evil that was the National Socialists, and it brings me much happiness to know the Dutch people have not forgotten such struggles either.

I wholeheartedly agree with your proposal to re-establish communications between our governments and foster a renewed era of cooperation and friendship. Ingrid Peeters, your distinguished candidate for ambassador, will be warmly welcomed as the representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Canada.

However, I must inform you that His Royal Majesty the King is scheduled to host a state visit for the President of the United States of America in two days. Given the importance of this diplomatic engagement, it would be most prudent to expedite the transmission of the Ambassador's letter to the King immediately, or have it sent to my office and I will hand it to him directly.

I will have the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Morrison, meet with Ambassador Peeters as soon as her letter of credence is officially approved. Normally, I would have the Minister of Global Affairs meet with your Ambassador, however as you may understand, Minister Bernier is preoccupied with matters pertaining to the upcoming state visit.

Once again, I thank you for your outreach and the prospect of reinvigorating our bilateral relationship. Together, I am confident that our nations will be able to work towards a brighter and more prosperous future for us all.
