[Norway] Diplomatic Invitation to The Netherlands

[Dutchy]

"Well, I am aware that the Dutch government previously contacted the German administration of Angela Merkel, however, we have yet to have contact with the latest government. Though it is certainly on our to do list. As for Italy, they are rather quiet on the diplomatic front, having recently only engaged in military action on the European continent with Austria and now the Balkans. We do see the need to establish diplomatic contact, but it is not a priority."

"I would advise you contact all European nations, all nations if possible, to at least establish official contact" the King would conclude saying.

The President walked in and took his previous seat, saying "I believe it was well received, your Majesty." He listened to what the King was suggesting, "It was my intention to meet with the British chariman of the Economic Committee and discuss next-year's budget, as I hope to establish a range of agencies. I would like to say I hope that Norway is willing to take the office of Chief Diplomat of the ETO, but that is something we should discuss once you're an official member. I would b all for the foundation of an environmental agency and would love to hear more."

 

[Odinson]

"Norway has a history of peacefully resolving conflicts. If it's the consensus of the ETO - if we become a member - then I'm sure we'd be happy to have a Norwegian take the office of Chief Diplomat. In regard to an environmental agency," Enoch continued, "I'd be happy to go into a bit more detail. I obtained my bachelors of science from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, which was Environmental Science. Afterwards, I earned a Masters in Environmental Toxicology. For the past 30,000 years, the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide and the Earth's average temperature have been surprisingly stable. This has allowed man to build these wonderful civilizations in the west and east that we enjoy today. However, in the past one-hundred years, we have dramatically increased the parts-per-million (ppm) of atmospheric CO2. In fact, we are on course to soon surpass 400ppm. Gentlemen, the last time CO2 levels were past 400ppm was 3-million years ago. What we have done, and are still doing, is presented a massive threat to the stability of our planet's atmosphere and biosphere. In fact, most scientists are in consensus that the 'Sixth Great Extinction' has begun, and it's our fault. That's why some are naming it the 'Holocene Extinction'.

"Many of us in the scientific community believe that the damage we have done is serious. Generations from now will have harder lives to live because of us. However, we can start changing our ways now to stop the worst from happening. If we maintain the status quo for an extended period of time, however, I am without doubt that we can easily render the Earth mostly uninhabitable for humans in the next 150-200 years, 300 if we are incredibly lucky.

"The top priorities of this potential ETO environmental agency would be: to ensure that the successful Montreal Protocol is upheld so that CFCs do not destroy the ozone layer; and begin a rapid transformation of our energy production and transportation within our respective nations. There are plenty of amazing alternatives that are seeing outstanding scientific advancement when it comes to electric cars and green technology, so this isn't impossible, and it can be done without destroying our economies. But, we need to do it."

 

[Dutchy]

"I agree that it is essential that a plan of action must be made in regards to safeguarding our future here on Earth, not just for us but for future generations. And this doesn't simply mean protection from conflict, or economic prosperity, but to guarantee our children's future, we must also think of Earth herself. Which is why I believe your suggested agency fits with the aims of the European Treaty Organisation."

"I will begin preparations for this institution to be founded, but will require your assistance in the future."

"I would also like to invite the Norwegian leadership, you, Prime Minister Leif Holt and/or President Volden, to the ETO's Council of Leaders meeting which is planned to be held in October. This meeting will outline the organisations plans for the next years and I would like to have your nation represented as a potential future member state. Would this be possible?"

 

[Odinson]

"I'm happy to hear that. And yes, either I or Prime Minister Holt would be happy to go. I would very much like to learn more about the ETO from an on-the-ground perspective, and I'm sure this would be a great way to do it. There was one other thing that I know Prime Minister Holt wished to discuss, however it's something that's close to me as well. He is responsible for domestic affairs in Norway, but we have spoken extensively about this and I'm positive that he would have no problem with me discussing it with you.

"When I was in university, I studied abroad for a semester in the United States. It was a really eye-opening experience that I enjoyed, and there were some international students in Trondheim as well. As it stands, all international student programs have ceased. The Prime Minister and I are in total agreement that restarting these student exchange programs would be a very good way at having cultural exchanges between nations that we consider friends or allies. Do you think it would be possible for Norway and The Netherlands to have student exchanges in the future?"

 

[Dutchy]

"The European Treaty Organisation would be happy to accommodate a student exchange program between its member states. The Erasmus Program, is what I would love to see, students able to study at the world leading universities of Britain, the Netherlands and Norway. Now please excuse me, I must go to prepare the Council of Leaders meeting, I cannot wait to see all members present." He would rise and offer his hand to the Norwegian King.

Willem-Alexander would also shake the hand of the ETO President before he left the room, turning back to his Norwegian counterpart, "There you go, I too believe it would be best to handle this through the ETO, I would like to see an British-Dutch-Norwegian exchange program. It seems the best solution to your wish."

 

[Odinson]

Enoch bid the President farewell. He and King Willem would finish lunch. He offered a brief tour of the palace grounds to the King, and then bid him farewell is there was nothing else to be discussed.

"Thank you for coming here to Norway. I think we've made some serious progress in relations between our countries. I encourage you and the President to keep an ear to the news - I'm sure discussion of joining the ETO will arise in the Storting soon."

If nothing else was to be discussed, a motorcade escorted by the Army would bring the king back to Oslo's international airport so that he could return home to The Netherlands.

 

[Dutchy]

"I will certainly be watching your country closely, I can foresee a grand future for both you and your nation. Please contact the Dutch Armed Forces if you wish to proceed the discussion of closer military cooperation. Other than that, I have no further points that require discussing at this time."

The King would rise and offer his hand to his counterpart, "I would like to thank you for hosting me. I truly hope to see you again soon."

Being escorted back to Oslo's International Airport the Dutch delegation would board the aircraft and return safely to the Netherlands.
