Beijing - Shortly following her election, President Yuan Zhi has declared martial law throughout the People's Republic. She clarified that this choice was needed to allow for the proper transfer of power to the new government as well as to make anti-corruption efforts possible without allowing suspects to flee the country. Shortly after soldiers were reported to be marching through the streets of major cities and thousands of arrests of government officials have been reported.
There have been no reports of major clashes against the military units. The People's Liberation Army itself appears to be maintaining a relaxed approach, only intervening when needed. As the regular business day began people continued going to their jobs.
President Orders Police and Military to Refuse Cooperating in Death Penalty
Beijing - Referring to the act as a barbaric relic of a government refusing to move into the future, the President has issued an order banning any member of the military or law enforcement in China to participate in the execution of a convicted prisoner. As under the law these officers are responsible for executing a death penalty the measure amounts to a ban on all executions. The measure applies retroactively to all current pending executions and President Yuan Zhi has stated she intends to pass a law permanently abolishing the death penalty for all crimes.
The decision is undoubtedly a relief for many who have recently been arrested that under the old regime could be executed for their crimes.
Beijing - Following her earlier decision to essentially suspend the death penalty, the President has now announced a new tribunal is to be formed and provided with the resources to review all convictions involving political crimes or where it is believed political motivations may have resulted in a wrongful conviction. The decision is designed to free those whose only crimes have been peaceful resistance. The Tribunal will prioritize cases based on if a conviction has already occurred and lengthy of sentences imposed. Anyone may petition the Tribunal to review their convictions and if the Tribunal rules in favour of the petition their records are expunged. The Tribunal is expected to employ thousands of legal experts and especially attract foreign legal experts to guarantee transparency and fairness. It operates independent of the Presidency or the Communist Party and any judgement is final.
The step is the newest in efforts by the President to create a new China.
Beijing - In a press conference Vice President Wei has announced that the final arrests have been made and all fugitives have been secured. The Vice President added that with all in custody and trials set to start, the country can once again look to recovery. In total 18,259 people have been arrested varying from senior party members to regional and local police officials. They face sentences from 1 year to life.
With any real counter-revolutionary activity remaining absent, the Vice President has also said that while the state of emergency remains in effect there will be fewer soldiers on the streets. The military is primarily ordered to protect vital installations until all order returns. Areas of cities containing embassies and consulates will also still be protected by the People's Liberation Army.
President Orders Release of Hundreds of Thousands Uyghur
Ürümqi, Xinjiang - After witnessing the situation for herself by visiting a re-education camp, President Yuan has ordered the immediate closure of all camps and for those within to be returned to their homes. The re-education camps were created by the previous government to assimilate the Uyghur population, reports have shown that torture has become rampant in these facilities and after seeing the truth the President was overcome with a resolve to restore the faults of the previous administration. Thanks to the grace and mercy of President Yuan, nearly a million people will return to their families and be freed from terror. When questioned about the terrorist threat from these people, President Yuan commented that the stick does not prevent terrorism. Showing people love and acceptance does.
To guarantee an orderly return to normal an increased presence of police will remain for the upcoming months. All imprisoned will receive payment from the government to compensate for the time they have lost.
Beijing - Citing improved security conditions and the desire to return China to normalcy as soon as possible, President Yuan Zhi has announced the formation of a Grand Assembly of the People to reform the Chinese state into what the people truly desire. The Grand Assembly is to be held in one month, before it regional Assemblies will be held in each county to establish that county's position. During the Grand Assembly, the 2,825 representatives of the counties will discuss and vote on a new constitution as well as government form. All citizens are invited and encouraged to participate in county assemblies and workers will be given a paid day off. Political parties, including the Communist Party, have been banned from campaigning to truly have the Grand Assembly represent the will of the people.
The Grand Assembly will be held in the Forbidden City. Those convicted or accused of criminal offences cannot participate and measures will e taken to protect the interests of minority groups that may be unable to get their position represented. Especially this last move has been well received by groups traditionally opposed to the Chinese government.
Military Presence Increased in Beijing as Grand Assembly Approaches
Beijing - With the Grand Assembly of the People rapidly approaching, the People's Liberation Army has been deployed around the Forbidden City in greater force. The Office of the President has stated that the increased deployment as well as increased air patrols are to guarantee the sanctity of the proceedings against any domestic or foreign threat. In anticipation of the event, the Forbidden City has been sealed and the Ministry of State Security is making sure that no espionage equipment is present within the compound.
Throughout China County Assemblies have been held and all delegates have been chosen. These delegates have been placed under protection by the People's Liberation Army inside of the Forbidden City to protect them against any threats or violence.
Beijing - In a worldwide exclusive, President Yuan Zhi has agreed to sit down with the People's Daily for a no restrictions interview in anticipation of the Grand Assembly of the People. The transcripts of this interview have been added below.
Int(Interviewer): Madam President, thank you for agreeing to this interview. In the past year we have seen you rise from an Officer in the Army to beocming the most powerful woman in the world. As you can imagine China has a great many questions about you and what drives you. Can you perhaps start by telling us what motivated your revolution?
YZ(President Yuan Zhi): Thank you, and first of all I must correct you there. This is not my revolution, this is the revolution of the people. I am merely their vessel. What motivated this revolution was the excess of those claiming to represent the needs of the people but only seeking to fill their own pockets. Those seeking conflict elsewhere to further increase their power at the cost of the people they are sworn to protect. Chairman Mao wanted real change, not more greed. The people want real change.
Int: I understand what you are saying, however there are those referring to the state China was in the past and how the introduction of the markets has resulted in China's incredible growth over the past twenty years.
YZ: Yes, the Chinese economy has been doing well. The inequality however has only increased, we live in a country where the richest man is one of the richest men in the world while on the other end a farmer can barely afford to feed his family. The governments have been good for the cities but not the rest of China. My goal is, the Grand Assembly willing, to establish a China where all will benefit from the fruits of our collective labour. I am not seeking to get rid of the markets or foreign investment, we may even increase it. What I do want is the profits to benefit all, and not just an aristocratic elite.
Int: It is good that you mentioned the Grand Assembly, while the exact content of the discussions is secret, more and more sources are saying that there is a popular mandate to extend your rule beyond Presidential terms and to replace the current party system that has ruled since the original revolution. Can you comment?
YZ: The plans for the Grand Assembly are secret for a reason, this is the first truly representative legislature China has ever had. If I were to comment in anyway I would risk damaging the proceedings.
Int: I understand, now a different subject. In recent weeks you have had several productive talks with several world leaders, what are your plans internationally?
YZ: For too long have communist states sought to impose their revolution on others, what I want is a global community that cooperates on shared interests. Only if we remove ideology from the equation can we live in peace. On foreign policy it is my goal to advance the interests of China and Asia in that order. These interests are, sovereignty, freedom and a proper say in global affairs. The 21st cntury is the Asian century. Anyone that feels like I do, I call a friend. I do not care what kind of government they maintain, that is their own business.
Int: Thank you, Madam President. Now we have one more question from our younger readers, or well my daughters. Will Winnie the Pooh be making a return to our cinemas and tv?
YZ: *laughs* Yes, we can no longer deprive our children of this character.
Former Governor Arrested in Arms Smuggling Investigation
Jinan, Shandong - Acting on information obtained by the Ministry of State Security, the former governor of the Shandong has been arrested by the People's Armed Police. Twenty other arrests have been made in the same case. The suspects have been charged with conspiracy to illegally export a controlled good, theft of government property and most seriously treason. A spokesperson for the Shandong province has stated that the group is believed to have illegally smuggled weapons to Canada. The Ministry of State Security became aware of this as the former governor was being surveilled as part of an existing investigation into corruption and conspiring with foreign actors. If convicted each can face a life sentence in prison and have all their assets confiscated by the state.
The former governor was removed after allegations of corruption rose however due to his high status within the Party, no criminal proceedings were initiated at the time. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that all the data collected, especially on Canadian contacts, will be shared with the elected government.
Beijing - News has just reached the People's Daily that four armed men have committed a terrorist attack in Zhongnanhai. Early reports indicate that dozens were wounded and some killed. It is unclear if the President is among the victims and if so what her status is. In response the People's Liberation Army and People's Armed Police have moved to maximum readiness and locked down the city to make sure no additional attacks occur. According to sources, Vice President Wei has broken off his visit to Hong Kong and is returning to Beijing in his plane under Air Force escort. Neither the President's Administration, the Communist Party, the People's Armed Police or the People's Liberation Army were willing to comment when asked. It is unclear if those responsible have been detained. This is a developing story, as soon as more information is obtained it will be published.
The Bosnian government would take note of these incidents and send a detailed report back to Sarajevo on the matter on grounds that such incidents could be used to frame Moslem minorities in China.
With reports of an attack in Beijing, the German Chancellor would privately call an emergency meeting to decide whether or not its diplomatic missions were under threat.
Beijing - Following his emergency return to Beijing and news of a terrorist attack at Zhongnanhai the Vice President has addressed the nation and released a statement on what has happened.
"People of China,
Earlier today four armed men wearing near perfect replicas of Guard uniforms and using fake identification managed to enter the President's residence. There they proceeded to enter the President's office and shortly after started their attack. The President was hit and is currently in surgery, however her doctors state with confidence that she is expected to make a full recovery as the bullets thankfully missed vital organs. Two staffers, four police officers and five real guards were less lucky and sadly lost their lives. We mourn with the families of these heroes who gave their for the revolution. Ten other people, including the commander of the Beijing Special Guards Unit who acted as a shield to protect the President, are currently in critical condition.
The Beijing Special Guards Unit has managed to arrest the four attackers as they attempted their escape. They have been taken in custody for questioning but their motive is as of yet unclear. We are however confident that there are no other attacks currently ready to proceed within Beijing. As we cannot be sure that this group acted without foreign support, I have ordered the People's Liberation Army to take all necessary measures to protect the sovereignty and safety of the People's Republic of China.
Every revolution will face reactionary forces that attempt to counter it. We will not let these forces win."
Reports have reached the People's Daily that the PLA Air Force and Navy have been given orders to deploy their forces to positions capable of protecting the mainland from any aerial or naval incursion. Increased checks and security measures have also been reported at all border posts. The number of military active in Beijing has been increased even further.
Beijing - After a hours-long surgery it has finally been confirmed that President Yuan Zhi is no longer in critical condition and is showing signs of improvement. At a press conference held inside the hospital, the lead surgeon has stated that President Yuan needed surgery to her abdomen and stomach and that all damage has been repaired. She is expected to make a full recovery.
Red Fist Identified As Group Responsible
Beijing - Based on early investigations, the Ministry of Public Security has identified a new group known as the Red Fist for the terrorist attack early this morning. The group, which was founded by disgruntled Party members following the change of government, has been linked to different criminal groups. Most prominently the smuggling ring arrested last month. Government authorities had been monitoring the group's development but the sudden escalation came as a large surprise.
According to the Ministry, Red Fist has the goal to restore the previous government and steer a global communist revolution. The suspects arrested earlier today have been arraigned, however the Ministry has stated that more arrests will likely follow as the four did not act alone.
Beijing - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced today that last week during the Indian President's state visit to Beijing, President Yuan and her Indian counterpart have signed a treaty on mutual security, economic and technological development. The alliance gives both countries unity of purpose and a clear goal on foreign policy. The Minister of Foreign Affairs has said that he is pleased greatly that both countries have managed to set aside historical differences to advance the development of Asia in an ever-changing world.
The alliance brings together the two strongest rising powers and one third of the world. The news has been positively received throughout the contry and is considered the first real foreign policy victory of the new administration.
The President & Chancellor of Germany would congratulate the Chinese & the Indian governments for working out any differences they may have had, and resolving any conflicts in an alliance with one–another.
Philippines Brings Slanderous Claim Against Celestial Empire to Global Assembly
Beijing - Following a verbal confrontation by a Philippine Frigate illegally entering Celestial territorial waters near the Subi Reef, the Philippines have introduced a resolution seeking to falsely accuse the Celestial Empire of violating the Law of the Sea. In a joint statement the People's Liberation Army Navy and the People's Armed Police, of which the coast guard is a part, the claim has been called ridiculous. Both the Tianjin and Xi'an are currently in waters near the Subi Reef as part of a Coast Guard operation seeking to police Chinese waters to guarantee the free passage of civilian shipping and trade and prevent such shipping from piracy. The South China Sea at large annually sees some of the highest levels of shipping.
Prior to entering the meeting called following the resolution, Ambassador Liu, stated that the claim by the Philippines is without merit and that he will make sure the facts are relayed to the Global Assembly. Legal analysts believe that the Celestial Empire has a strong case in this matter as international law does not prohibit the use of navy assets as police vessels.
The proposed resolution fits in a pattern of anti-Chinese behaviour shown by the Philippines and Vietnam in recent times. As such experts believe this most recent claim is an organized attempt to slander the Celestial Empire in an effort to keep their iron boot on the throat of Asia. A spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said the Celestial Empire will continue to strife for a stronger and prosperous Asia and that for that goal the government is actively cooperating with allies such as India and Singapore and actively reaching out to other Asian states to bring about a peaceful future for the continent as it faces the challenges and opportunities offered by the 21st century.
Reading the news, President Duterte, who is currently in Japan, would issue a public statement saying that he is cancelling his scheduled state visit in Beijing due to the recent Chinese military excursion in the Spratly Islands."
As Ruling is Expected, Criticism of Global Assembly Rises
Beijing - With the controversial and scandalous trial against the Celestial Empire reaching its concluding stage, parties within the Celestial Empire have become increasingly critical over the Global Assembly. While members of the Council of Ministers and the Forbidden City have remained mostly silent, members of the various political parties and the citizens themselves have not been. Anti-Global Assembly protests have started throughout the major cities of the Empire. While police have been sent in to maintain order, the general pattern is a positive one with patriotic songs and pro-government chants being nearly continuous. When asked many in the public point out that the Global Assembly is apparently so busy deciding where the Celestial Empire can put its ships whereas they are incapable of preventing a genocide in Turkey and ethnic cleansing in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Beyond the criticisms 'Down with Figueroa' and 'Abolish the Global Assembly' can be commonly heard as well.
While the responses from politics are less extreme, the sentiment is felt there as well. Mister Xi from the Progressive Movement had the following to say. "Here we have a Global Assembly that spends hours of taxpayer time discussing policing actions to secure their trade ships while they let a genocide go unanswered in their own backyard. Is it a surprise that three out of seven ICJ seats are reserved for the west? The Global Assembly is a tool by the capitalists to continue their neo-imperialism.". His colleague from the Communist Party echoed the sentiment by saying. "It seems clear that the Global Assembly through its design seeks to empower the old world rather than letting rising powers develop0. The Celestial Empire must seriously consider a continued presence in such a corrupt organization. In fact every country that happens to be outside of Europe or North America should think twice".
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released an official statement, stating amongst other things that "The Celestial Empire maintains its confidence in the ability of the Global Assembly to judge fairly and serve as a force of good in the world. There are no plans to leave the organization." Whether that statement remains true is to be seen as elections are planned for next month and both the Communist Party and Progressive Movement are expected to secure a large share of the vote.
Beijing - The People's Liberation Army has reported that it has detected and countered multiple Vietnamese incursions into the airspace of the Celestial Empire. According to a spokesperson for the People's Liberation Army Air Force, four individual fast flying stealthy objects were detected headed for the airspace of the Celestial Empire. Ships and aircraft operating as part of Operation Guardian tracked and fired defensive missiles at these objects. The exact nature of these objects have not been identified but the People's Liberation Army Air Force currently does not believe these objects were missiles but rather served a surveillance purpose. In the same statement the spokesperson has also stated that there has been a confrontation between Celestial and Vietnamese aircraft in the border region but that it did not turn violent.
The Empress has responded furiously to the Vietnamese incursion. In a public statement issued by the Forbidden City she says. "Vietnam has once again shown its true colours as a violent regime. We will not tolerate any incursions into the Celestial Empire. I will work with the Council of Ministers and our allies to arrange for a wide array of punitive sanctions to punish Vietnam for its violation of Celestial sovereignty. All diplomatic tools will be used."
It is expected that among the measures will be a closure of all border posts and withdrawal of visa issued to Vietnamese nationals. Furthermore it is expected a resolution will be introduced to the Global Assembly.
