PROJECT INFORMATION	The Gadhada Naval Base will be situated in the Gult of Khambhat, built directly into rocky coastal cliffs. It will serve as a logistics, maintenance, and replenishment node for a submarine fleet. The facility is engineered to provide support for a permanent fleet of 12 submarines while maintaining the capacity to service 2 heavy tender ships. Infrastructure The base will be anchored by a network of reinforced tunnel pens bored directly into the cliff face, providing 6 primary submarine pens (each accommodating 2 submarines side-by-side) plus 2 dedicated tender berths at the seaward apron. Operational Capacity: Through standardized twin-pen tunnel protocols, the facility will accommodate up to 12 submarines under hardened cover simultaneously, with the 2 tender ships berthed at an adjoining reinforced quay just outside the tunnel mouths. Vessel Compatibility: Tunnel pens and approach channels are engineered to support high-displacement submarine hulls, while the exposed tender berths are rated for vessels up to and including Deepak-class fleet tankers. Hydraulic Engineering: Extensive capital dredging and rock excavation will be executed to establish a deep-draft submerged approach channel, blast-hardened tunnel entrances, and a high-diameter turning basin, ensuring safe submerged and surfaced navigation from the Arabian Sea under all tidal conditions. Cliff Tunnel Network: The tunnels will be carved into the natural rock formation, with reinforced concrete lining and camouflaged blast doors at each entrance, providing overhead cover against surveillance and attack while linking the pens internally for personnel and logistics movement. Logistics To ensure fleet readiness, the base will function as a self-contained replenishment centre: POL Infrastructure: Installation of standard hardened Petrol, Oil, and Lubricant (POL) tank farms, set within the cliff for high-volume refuelling of submarines and tenders alike. Ordnance Storage: Construction of a Type II Munitions Magazine, providing secure, climate-controlled storage for fleet ballistics and missile systems, built in semi-bunker neighbourhoods set back from the tunnel mouths, surrounded by dirt grounds to prevent extensive damage if fire or explosion occurs. Maintenance: A Level II Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA) facility will be established within the tunnel complex. This industrial hub will provide repair capabilities, including modular engine swaps, advanced electronics calibration, and mid-tier hull maintenance for the submarine fleet. Command, Control, and Security The administrative and security heart of the base will be situated roughly 1 km inland, atop the cliff, to provide a protective buffer and operational oversight. C4I Centre: A dedicated Command Building will house secure communication suites, featuring integrated SIPR/NIPR network architecture for encrypted joint-force coordination. Fleet Support Centre: A centralised hub to manage vessel logistics, crew rotations, and shore-to-ship services. Force Protection: The installation will be enclosed by a multi-layered security perimeter, including reinforced fencing, biometric-controlled gatehouses, and advanced waterfront physical security systems for subsurface and surface threat detection, with the tunnel entrances themselves forming a natural hardened first line of defence. Personnel & Garrison Support The base will provide permanent stationing for 3,200 naval personnel. Residential Complex: Construction of two modern barracks buildings designed for high-density, high-readiness living. Support Facilities: The garrison footprint includes all necessary ancillary structures for life support, including medical stations, mess halls, stores, bars, and administrative offices to ensure sustained operational morale and efficiency.
