PROJECT INFORMATION | This is phase 1 of the electrical grid expansion project. The plant will be built on the banks of Wissman Bay, north Lake Malawi. The power plant will be made up of 2 pressurised water reactors using Lake Malawi as its water cooling source. At full capacity, the power plant will have a total output of 1118 MW. Tanzania only produces 1600 MW at full capacity, enough to supply 20% of the population. This creates a severe national shortage of electricity by 8600 MW.
