PROJECT INFORMATION | Kraliyet Küçük Silahlar Model 1 Dual-Purpose Grenade Total Length: 4.72 in. (120 mm) Casing Length: 3.54 in. (90 mm) Casing Diameter: 2.76 in. (70 mm) Total Weight: 800 gm (28.22 oz) Explosive Filling: 217.7 gm (7.68 oz) of Composition B Detonation Mechanism: Percussion cap and 4 second fuse via standard safety-pin restrained striker, or percussion cap activated by bullet-trap and 8 second fuse Injury Radius: 15 metres (49 feet) Fatality Radius: 5 metres (16 feet) This stout grenade has a unique detonation system that allows the grenade to be armed via one of two methods. The diagram below, which is to scale, shows a cross section of the detonator inside the casing. The detonator, which is shown as the components encased within the pink cylinder filling the centre of the grenade, possesses the following features. 1. The standard spring-operated striker, which occupies the dark brown section in the top segment of the weapon and the spring housing that isn't shown, which possesses the safety pin. As expected, the user merely needs to pull the pin and throw to arm the grenade in the standard hand-thrown manner. 2. The centre of the detonator possesses a 4 second chemical fuse, represented by the yellow area, that is lit by the detonation of a percussion cap, which is shown by the grey parts of the diagram. Once the fuse burns its way to the detonation explosive, shown via the bright pink segment, it will explode and detonate the main explosive filling. 3. The green segment, with a flared bottom, is a bullet-trap for firing the grenade with the assistance of the Kraliyet Küçük Silahlar Model 12 Semi-Automatic Service Rifle. Requiring no preparation at all, the user sticks the grenade on the end of their rifle and fires with, or without, the assistance of the rifle grenade sight on the rifle. The flared bottom of the grenade allows it to be stuck on the end of the rifle, while the expanding gases and bullet propel the grenade through the air. At the same time, the bullet hits the bottom percussion cap and ignites the eight second fuse. |
