Situation Report
Development of the Swedish Armed Forces has continued to grow year on year and with the continued established technological advancements available to the state, Sweden has continued to remain at the forefront of global military prowess. Global terror threat and hostile government threat to the Swedish mainland, interests and overseas territory has also continued at an alarming rate prompting emergency review by the National Security Council; a selection of officials managed by the Executive Office of the Prime Minister of Sweden. This operation will fundamentally measure the early warning capability of both mainland Sweden and South Africa and how these primary territorial claims link into other overseas territory around the world. This includes the incorporation of specialist assets.

As a devastating war begins to engulf the Democratic Republic of Congo and the media swarm starts to overtake the day-to-day mundanity that ordinarily littered the news, it was difficult for the Department of Defence not to address a very real and growing threat to Africa. It was clear that with Congo at the very heart of Africa, any conflict could quite easily lapse over neighbouring borders, pour through the various cities, towns and villages before it inevitably lead the darkness of conflict to South Africa; a heavily contested overseas territory of the Kingdom of Sweden which sits at the very cusp of the continent. Despite there being a few thousand kilometres between the two, it was not just a physical violation of geographic borders that brought risk into the mind of the Department of Defence. Displacement risking a significant refugee crisis putting an undeniable strain on resources and infrastructure, economic impact, political instability and security risks also featured highly on the concerns of senior officials. War was not just about military equipment crossing a fence line; lives were at stake too... and if the reports from the media were anything to be believed, too many had already been lost. With this said, Operation Wagnerite could not have been any more perfect.

A group of various advisors representing all branches of the Swedish Armed Forces would come together in a conference room, only a table decorated with a huge printed map of Africa divided their attention. The agenda of the meeting predominantly surrounding a clear and growing risk to the integrity of South Africa. Comments made by the government in Mexico, who have amusingly fallen radio silent after a rebuttal by the Office of the Governor-General of South Africa, and mounting pressures as a result of the ongoing war have done nothing to aid this risk. Congo and Sweden have long had a fractured relationship as two government officials remain in a detention facility on terrorism charges and a former cabinet member lay dead in a South African morgue; these details made for a fairly unique set of circumstances but nonetheless did nothing to assist an established threat. After much discussion about the most suitable response to the trending threat to South Africa the decision was made universally to begin Operation Wagnerite which, in its final form, will see to the operational deployment of the entire airborne early warning and control fleet. This deployment will see to a malleable defensive buffer-zone created which will work in unison with the aerospace defence capabilities provided by the Swedish Strategic Defence Network which to this day remains the most advanced and sophisticated interconnected network in the world which incorporates materiel assets in foreign territory, overseas territory and the Swedish mainland.

After a signature on the dotted line by the Secretary of Defence Peter Hultqvist, the message was quickly echoed to Ysterplaat and Swartkop Airbases for immediate deployment.

Termination
December 2003

Order issued by the Department of Defence would see the immediate termination of Operation Wagnerite. Following a dynamic assessment within the department and associated agencies, it has been determined that the active threat towards Swedish interests are significantly diminished when compared to the establishment of this operation. All and any remaining materiel would be ordered back to home port/base or alternate operation deployment in accordance with any subsidiary orders. Following a review the operation will remain at 'TOP SECRET' classification in accordance with the Swedish Document Classification and Security Act 1995.
