Subject: Airspace access for the commercial airline to bring back Thai nationals

Dear Zeki Eker,

My name is Piyawat Charanachitta, and I am the Thai ambassador to Turkey. For the previous two years, my Foreign Ministry has assigned me the responsibility of your nation. I don't know, but it did not work out. My Foreign Ministry has long viewed Turkey as a potential partner in building a close relationship via collaboration on various issues, but numerous obstacles remain. I will keep it brief and go right to the point. The government of the Republic of Thailand is requesting that the Republic of Turkey allow its airspace to our commercial airline so that we can fly to Turkey and pick up our citizens. The move is suitable for our country since we can assure the safety of our citizens, and Turkey will not have to worry about Thais within the country tweeting about it. My Foreign Minister has sent me the following message: Because we are both among Asia's most powerful nations, both of our governments should build and maintain a cordial connection. We can still work together to ensure peace despite our ideological differences.

Dear ambassador,

Unfortunately we have closed all airspace in the interest ensuring the safety of our civilians and yours. Our Airspace is indefinitely closed to ensure no civilian air traffic is potentially caught in combat at this time. Please direct Thai Citizens to the Iraq or Bulgaria Borders where we will have checkpoints for Foreign nationals to leave the country. From there your citizens can take aircraft out of these countries to Thailand. While we appreciate your offer to strengthen relations we cannot go forward after the heinous actions of your ambassadors in Congo which deliberately encouraged the breaking of international law by killing various civilian diplomats already under diplomatic immunity. Upon punishing the perpetrators of this awful crime Turkey may begin create a greater bond between our two states.

Regards,
Zeki Eker
Minister of Foreign Affairs

Dear Zeki Eker,

I thank you for your prompt response and apologies for my late reply. The embassy's work has recently become more demanding as we have to collaborate with our citizens to arrange transportation for them. We appreciate the Turkish people's assistance and constant provision of lodging for Thai citizens. During my stay here, I heard the news and noticed that my ambassador friends had to leave and return to their country. I have discussed your intention to secure Turkey's stability in your last sentence with my co-workers, counselor, and the Foreign Ministry itself. Mrs. Sopa Pimolkittikool, Thai ambassador to Congo, appears in the videotape, and I believe you are referring to her. We have investigated to find a cause of this action made by seven embassy staff at the International Embassy Complex in Kinshasa, Congo. We have already gone over the evidence from the incident. We understand the Congolese people's cruelty, but we also acknowledge why they did it. Unfortunately, we do not hold the authority to abuse or terminate the employees' rights without giving thirty days' notice in advance. Mrs. Sopa is also an honorable citizen of this sovereign state because she has prevented the war between Thailand and Congo. We can't count their action as a criminal offense in our country, and they were not directly involved in the killing of your diplomats. We are condolence the death of your national and the frontline of your diplomatic mission as we understand they should have protection. We believe it is their political right, but we can ensure that the action will less likely occur from now.

Please do not have a negative attitude toward Foreign Office or me. We are not trying to turn you down. I believe it will be better for both of us if we return to duty and do our best to ensure the nation's safety in diplomatic matters. We don't interest in intervening in the war happening here, so you can rest easy with us. I will contact you next time the obstacle problem is less concerned.
