Provisional Executive Council The Republic of Zimbabwe (SECURE/ENCRYPTED/PRIVATE) |
To: Kristopher Reensma, Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs; Hendrik Rutte, Belgian Secretary of African Affairs Flying Damascas From: Chairman of The Provisional Executive Council of Zimbabwe Subject: Arms Enquiries Dear sir, You are probably aware of the recent upheaval in Zimbabwe that has resulted in the overthrowing of Robert Mugabe's regime by foreign forces. In the aftermath, we are being given support, but there is pressure for progress to be made as soon as possible in terms of providing security to the populace. As such, I, and the rest of the executive council, are immediately seeking out appropriate arms that would be able to equip our defence forces. It has been concluded that the M2HB QCB produced by FN Herstal is the best option for a heavy machine gun. We hope to be able to procure a domestic production and maintenance license, so that we can keep Zimbabwean industry afloat with contracts made as a result of the acquisition of a license. However, we understand that this may not be a viable option due to the country's unstable nature at the present moment, so we are willing to, if it meets any security concerns you have, accept supplies of machine guns produced in Belgium as an interim measure. We hope to hear your thoughts on our request soon. Yours faithfully, Trevor Hawkins, Chairman of The Provisional Executive Council |
