Overview |
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) is the Australian Government department charged with the responsibility to develop and implement policies and programs that ensure Australia's agricultural, fisheries, food and forestry industries remain competitive, profitable and sustainable. DAFF also manages quarantine controls at Australia's borders to minimise the risk of exotic pests and diseases entering the country. DAFF also provides import and export inspection and certification to help retain Australia's highly favourable animal, plant and human health status and wide access to overseas export markets. The portfolio also includes government agencies such as the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service, the Australian Fisheries Management Authority, the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences, the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation, the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority, the Regional Investment Corporation, the Thailand-Australia Partnership on Food Security in the Red Meat and Cattle Sector, the Australian Wheat Board and the Australian Livestock Export Corporation. It also includes various research and development corporations and peak industry bodies for various agricultural, fishery and forestry sectors of Australia.
