Dear Prime Minister Kyaw,

I am writing to congratulate you on your accession to power in Myanmar. The democratisation of Myanmar has long been a priority for the Australian Government. We hope that finally Myanmar can see a lasting peace and prosperity which will benefit the region. I have appointed Mrs. Bronte Moules as the Australian Ambassador to Myanmar. I am also formally inviting my counterpart in your government to visit Australia and meet with myself to discuss our bilateral relationship. The Australian Government is eager to boost its foreign aid to Pacific and South East Asian nations, to which Myanmar would be a suitable candidate. We hope to meaningfully contribute to the provision of health services and the construction of infrastructure in Myanmar. We would also like to look at ways in which we can help the Tatmadaw re-arm, in order to provide stability and security in Myanmar and to deter foreign aggressors.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
Kevin Rudd.

To: Kevin Rudd, Minister of Foreign Affairs
From: Kyaw Min Thein, Prime Minister

Your Excellency,

The support of the Australian Government during this historic transition is deeply appreciated by both myself and the people of Myanmar.

We welcome the appointment of Mrs. Bronte Moules as Ambassador to Myanmar and look forward to working closely with her in fostering a constructive and enduring partnership between our nations.

The invitation to visit Australia is received with gratitude, and I will ensure that Minister Aung San Suu Kyi prepares for this important engagement. Strengthening our bilateral relationship is a priority, particularly as we lay the foundation for a democratic and inclusive Myanmar.

Your government’s willingness to expand foreign aid to Southeast Asia comes at a vital time. As Australia is a member of the Global Assembly, we would deeply appreciate if your nation could help spread support and send oversees for the coming legal trials of the many members of the military junta government to assure that mob rule is prevented and keep the trials as fair as possible.

Regarding the Tatmadaw, I believe we have all we need at this time. Was there anything specific you had planned regarding re-armament?

Sincerely,
Kyaw Min Thein
Prime Minister
Empire of Myanmar
