DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS |
SECURITY CLASSIFICATION: PROTECTED (Encrypted) |
6 January 1997 |
Dear Whom it May Concern, At this present time we exceed your maximum allowance for diplomatic, mission and security staff at our embassies. May I reiterate that our diplomatic and mission staff are unarmed and all our security staff are contracted by security companies in your nation. Due to Spain's position as a major power in Europe and a hub for the Iberian Peninsula and north-west Africa we deem it necessary to have 100 diplomatic and mission staff in our Embassy in Madrid. Yours Sincerely, Dr. Carmen Lawrence. |
