Dear Chief of the General Staff,

There is a long standing tradition that army regiments are to maintain alliances with army regiments in other nations to where the armed forces swear allegiance to and maintain Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as their Head of State and Commander-in-Chief. I am proposing a series of regimental alliances between Australian Army regiments and British Army regiments to enhance cross-army engagement and cooperation and to maintain the many traditions we have inherited from the British Army. As such, the proposal is to align the following Australian Army regiments with the following British Army regiments:

Royal Australian Regiment:

  • Royal Gurkha Rifles
  • The Grenadier Guards
  • The Parachute Regiment
  • The Rifles
Royal New South Wales Regiment:
  • The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (Queen's and Royal Hampshires)
  • The Royal Welsh
Royal Victoria Regiment:
  • The Gordon Highlanders
  • The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers
Royal Queensland Regiment:
  • The Black Watch
  • The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment (King's Lancashire and Border)
Royal Western Australia Regiment:
  • The Royal Green Jackets
  • The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
Royal South Australia Regiment:
  • The Royal Scots Borderers
  • The Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons)
Royal Tasmania Regiment:
  • The Royal Anglian Regiment
  • The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment (King's, Lancashire and Border)
Special Air Service Regiment:
  • Special Air Service (all regiments)
1st Armoured Regiment:
  • Royal Tank Regiment
2nd Cavalry Regiment:
  • Household Cavalry Regiment
3rd/4th Cavalry Regiment:
  • The Royal Lancers (Queen Elizabeths' Own)
2nd/14th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry):
  • The Queen's Royal Hussars (Queen's Own and Royal Irish)
1st/15th Royal New South Wales Lancers:
  • 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards
12th/16th Hunter River Lancers:
  • The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers and Greys)
4th/19th Prince of Wales's Light Horse:
  • The Light Dragoons
10th Light Horse Regiment:
  • The King's Royal Hussars
3rd/9th Light Horse (South Australian Mounted Rifles):
  • The Royal Dragoon Guards
Yours sincerely,
Lieutenant General David Morrison.
