PRIME MINISTER |
SECURITY CLASSIFICATION: TOP SECRET (Encrypted) |
24 January 2000 |
Dear President Bahceli, I don't know what your plan is with these 19,000 Jews held in captivity. There is no point denying it, General Akar went on television and announced it to the world. There was no secrecy behind it. Frankly, Turkey has dug a massive hole for itself, bigger than any of the threats it made to Israel. The world is now turning on you for this act, the Congo, China, your allies, the ICJ are bringing a case even, your economy... is in ruins. The coalition which is building against you is growing by the day. Whatever your plan is here, it's on a very sure path to national suicide. Therefore I am proposing to you that these 19,000 or so individuals be taken to Australia. Not Israel, not anywhere near Turkey. We can take them to the far side of the world where you don't have to worry about them again. Our main priority here, is to save innocent lives, it is not to annihilate or destroy Turkey. We can keep this matter a secret as well, to avoid Turkey any embarassment internally or externally. We will transport these individuals out of Turkey on RAAF cargo planes and onwards to Australia. We will cover the logistics, we will cover their housing, their food, everything. You can send personnel from your embassy to inspect the cargo planes before they take off to make sure they aren't carrying anything capable of attacking Turkey with. That or you can simply put them on civilian aircraft to Dubai and we will transport them from there. They have all been granted humanitarian visas to come to Australia. Unlike the United States and others, we aren't kicking your diplomats out of Australia. We are a nation you can trust, of course we have been vocal, but that's only because we find it morally repugnant that these people are beind held in captivity. Release them to us and we can make your situation a whole lot better than where it is at the moment. Yours sincerely, Kim Beazley. |
