Day 1 -2 -

Each day will begin with a 5k run to be done in under 30 minutes in full combat gear. There will also be field strength training exercises with kettle balls, pull ups and general calisthenics. Every other day, Marines will focus on self-defense training in additional to the normal cardio and strength training.

Classroom

Soldiers will have classroom instruction about some of the classic Urban battles of the last 100 years. Battles such as Hue, Stalingrad and Beruit.

In the field

Squads and platoons are led through the city and are taught Observation and Fields of Fire. They learn to avoid short buildings as they have restrictive observation and fields of fire. Weapon ranges can be greatly reduced because of buildings and other manmade structures. Soldiers are taught to fight to the high ground, as taller buildings.can provide perches which enhance line of sight (LOS) for observation and communications as well as for individual and crew-served weapons.

Several platoons are made to sleep in the MOUT training area and learn to police their area of build up.

Day 3-4

To break up the running routine the soldiers will dress in full battle gear and breaking up into their platoons, will race up the two separate 500 stair staircases built into the site to acclimate their legs to running up and down stairs. They will run 5 loops, the equivalent of climbing a 100 story building.

Classroom

Soldiers study the value of employing mortars, tanks and artillery inside a MOUT training area. They review the role tanks played in the battle of Hue city and how artillery can be used outside the built-up area to isolate or prevent isolation with indirect-fire; and within the built-up area to provide direct-fire support.

In the Field

Soldiers are taught the how to conceal themselves inside urban terrain. They are also taught to conceal themselves in man-made obstacles like rubble or destroyed homes. They employ the lessons taught the day before about observation and Fields of Fire as unannounced they are fired upon by spec op forces using MILES rifles and are expected return fire using their own MILES rifles and begin to call in for air or artillery support.

In the morning the soldiers learn different ways to breech a door, battering ram, small explosives, how to kick one in etc. They are then taught room clearing techniques and basic close quarter combat techniques. They will clear rooms all morning. They will clear rooms in pairs, move up to a 4 person fire team, then to a full platoon clearing a six story building.

In the Classroom

The will review footage of the room clearing exercises from the morning.

Donning night vision goggles, they will repeat the mornings room clearing exercises and do it in the dark. This will be the last time they practice room clearing techniques without having actors stand in as either combatants or civilians.

Day 11- Attack Day

Several platoons will attack the mock up village of 8 3 story apartment buildings plus a smattering of one level houses, using 2 APC’s as cover and fire support. They will be up against a 21 man platoon of spec ops and also there will be civilians both friendly and hostile to deal with.

The attack will begin at dawn and soldiers will be judged how well they coordinate air and artillery support, release or take some civilian hostages, how many combatants they kill, and most importantly, how many of them complete the attack alive. There will designated instructors watching and grading the soldiers movements and the entire attack will be filmed by the the cameras outside, in the rooms and the corridors of the apartments and streets.

In the classroom

Individual platoons will go over with their instructors the lessons of the day’s events and how to improve on them for tomorrow’s final battle.

Day 12 - Full Day Attack

The platoons will take turn attacking the town against the spec op platoon, who now will also be receiving reinforced by as much as another platoon and air support. At the beginning of the day the spec soldiers hold all 8 buildings and 3 one story houses.
