Confederal Sociological Association
The Confederal Sociological Association (CSA) is a scholarly and professional society for sociologists dedicated to scientific purposes in the field of sociology and social sciences in the Socialist Republic of Thailand. A foremost national sociological body, its stated purposes are to "represent sociologists everywhere in the confederation, commit to building Marxism as an ever-evolving scientific perspective on society and a school of conflict theory, provide empirical evidence for sociological phenomenon, investigate international structural injustice holistically, and encourage greater sociological knowledge and insight distribution."
The CSA is known to reject the Weberian idea of value-free sociology in favor of Critical and Public Sociology that simultaneously choose a side and accommodate the Interpretative microsociological approach of Symbolic Interactionism and the macrosociological appaorach of Conflict Theory. The CSA is notably for its opposition against functionalist social theory, which posits that a society exists in an equillibrium maintained by social structure.
The Confederal Sociological Association also houses many sociologists belonging to the metamodern philosophy school. These social scientists are educated in postmodern and poststructuralist sociology, such as Baudrillard and Bourdieu, but employ deconstructive approaches to attack the structures which allow manufactured consent of the population as illusionary and part of a hyperreal society brought about by the cultural logic of late capitalism. Their official position on the external world outside the confederation is that "the capitalist world is fake. It only exists in everyone's head. To shatter that constructed reality is to allow everyone to collectively paint on a new canvas. In that process of a new creation, a radical democratic, post-capitalist society will take place."
