I hope this email finds you well. The Republic of Korea has undergone significant evaluation and review of the top three competitors for the ROK IFV Tender. Based on our desires for an agile and well armored IFV, we had initially hoped the ASCOD IFV would be offered by Spain. Alongside the other bidding partners, the Republic of Korea has expressed its interest to evaluate and possibly procure the ASCOD. Our benchmark for procurement of the K-20 IFV would be for the vehicle to include reactive armor and smoke grenade launchers. The expected amount to be procured of the ASCOD would be approximately three batches of 150. In total ~450 vehicles would be procured based on of course the economic situation in Korea as well as security needs. The dynamic situation on the Korean Peninsula requires continued vigilance and adaptation.
Alongside the K20 IFV program, the ROK Army is looking to procure new mobile tactical vehicles and believe the URO VAMTAC is an excellent candidate for use by the Korean Army. The ROK Army set its benchmark to procure the VAMTAC with strong armor and offensive systems. Additionally seeking to procure VAMTAC variants for command and information. The ROK Army would be purchasing these vehicles in batches, I would estimate between 200 - 300 LAVs would be purchased in the first batch and shall increase this order as deemed appropriate for the national defense.
We hope to come to an appropriate agreement with the Spanish Government and to assign the maintenance and if possible production licensing for these vehicles in Korea. Looking forward to your response.
Signed,
Kim Jaebeom
