EXECUTIVE ORDERS OF THE PRESIDENT |
Executive Orders are written, legal orders formally issued by the President of the United States to any person or entity within the Executive Branch. Executive Orders have the force of law, but can be easily rescinded by the President (or the next President) and cannot contradict Federal Law, which is supreme. Executive Orders are sometimes followed without mention or conflict, and sometimes are reviewed by the judiciary in order to decide their legality. The President may also sometimes issue major orders to the Armed Forces through Executive Orders. Also, it is important to remember that Executive Orders are issued solely by the President and need no authorization from the Legislative or Judicial Branches.
