Fungjai
Fungjai (EN: Listen Heart) is a Thai-based audio streaming and media service operated by Fungjai Cooperative. As of June 2006, it is Thailand’s largest provider of music streaming services with over 18 million monthly listeners across the country. Fungjai offers more than 300,000 Thai songs and 21,000 podcast titles. Unlike other music streaming services, the platform allows its users to freely share their music or podcast titles, subject to post-upload quality and guideline inspections. Musician, singers, or musical entertainment cooperatives often upload their creative works on Jungjai in addition to music video propagation through Collective Clips.
Fungjai offers an open-sourced protocol known as “Fungjai Connect,” which lets users listen to digital audio through a wide range of entertainment systems, including speakers, receivers, TVs, cars, and smartwatches. Offline listening is possible if the music or podcast uploader agrees to share their creative works. Users can browse music on various parameters, such as artist, album, genre, playlist, or record label. Users can create, edit, and share playlists, share tracks on social media, and make playlists with other users.
Since its launch in late 2003, Fungjai has been organizing weekly music charts based on a title’s popularity within the platform’s user base. Its Discovery section offers personalized suggestions of music and podcast titles per the user’s listening history. In December 2004, Fungjai introduced “Fungjai Play Button,” an embeddable music player that can be added to blogs, websites, or social media profiles, allowing visitors to listen to a specific song, playlist, or album without leaving the page. In addition, users can follow musicians, podcasts, and record labels to receive notifications on updates.
