Commander Nantapinij and Vice Admiral Johnston,

The Gandhi Indian Navy has been formally approved to participate in Operation Gateway. This joint communications channel seeks to understand what India's requested role in relation to the operation is, and further details around the operation and what Australia and Thailand are doing.

Thank you,

Dear Commander Malhotra,

Operation GATEWAY is an Australian Defence Force operation. However, assets deployed under Operation GATEWAY are participating in multinational efforts wth the Republic of Thailand to combat piracy and disrupt terrorist activities in the South East Asia region, notably from Jemaah Islamiyah and Abu Sayyaf. Both organisations have links to al-Qaeda and terrorist groups within Afghanistan. India is more then welcome to joint the multinational effort in the region, being a South East Asian partner. Naval assets are desirable, followed by maritime patrol aircraft or any Air Force assets which are deemed necessary to undertake operations against water-borne targets. These groups primarily gather their sources of income from piracy, drug smuggling and oil smuggling and launch attacks against other nations such as Malaysia via international waters. This is where we plan on disrupting them.

We do not have any authorisation to operate against these groups within sovereign borders, both on land and in territorial waters, notably their primary areas of operations: Indonesia and the Philippines. As per Australia's external defence agreement with Singapore we can operate within Singaporean territory and territorial waters and Thailand may also give that authorisation being a participant in the multinational effort. If the threat arises against Indian territory, notably the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, that would also be your perogative to give that authorisation.

Yours sincerely,
Vice Admiral David Johnston.

Vice Admiral Johnston,

The GIN will deploy two frigates to patrol the Java Sea, Makassar Strait, Flores Sea, Banda Sea, and Celese Sea. A single replenishment vessel will also be deployed in support. It will conduct operations in the southern South China Sea, off of Singapore. The RAN and RTN are welcome to use the services offered by the replenishment vessel. The Indian Coast Guard will be deploying a single Offshore Patrol Vessel to the Java Sea, and will operate closely with the replenishment vessel.

Worm retards,

Commander Vikramaditya Malhotra
