Thank you for your message and for expressing Canada’s interest in Korean defence capabilities as part of your naval development programme. We greatly value the spirit of cooperation and the opportunity to explore potential avenues for defence industry collaboration.

With regard to the systems you have outlined, I must emphasise that while discussions on destroyers, LCACs, and submarine rescue vessels can certainly be explored within the scope of bilateral defence cooperation, the Dokdo-class amphibious assault ship carries additional considerations. Given its strategic significance, such a platform is not available for export in the absence of established diplomatic relations between our nations.

We would, however, welcome continued dialogue on areas where cooperation is possible, and remain open to exchanges that strengthen mutual trust and lay the groundwork for broader engagement in the future.

Please convey our appreciation to your office for the invitation to consider a state visit. Such matters will require further review through the appropriate diplomatic channels.
