The bow of the MV Emerald Star cut through the Caribbean waters. The moon was at it's darkest cycle, making the ship blend into the darkness of the seas below it. The sound of wind blew up through the steel of the general cargo ship. Broken only by the sound of waves crashing over the bow.

Most of the crew remained asleep as the skeleton stared out of the redlight bridge. The bridge map was rolled out tracing the ships course from it's home port in Vancouver to it's intended destination on the Eastern Coast.

The Panama Canal had sat behind them following their successful transit but now the darkness had replaced it.

The Officer of the Watch stood at the bridge window"

"Make course bearing 290 degrees."

The officer of the watch moved to the port side overhang over the bridge as the ship's wake began to banana curve to the side.

"Closest vessel?"

A crew mate looks down at the radar scope

"Holding steady at 2.5 miles, parallel to our course and speed"

"All progressing well, let's get some hot drinks going" The officer of the watch relaxed as he headed across to the other side of the bridge.

The length of the walk from the end of the bridge to the other was long on the ship. It's cargo holds requiring a ship of great mass to transport the heavy weighs across the globe.

Reaching the kettle, he looked out the opposite bridge wing. The kettle hissed into life as it's blue light broke the redness of the bridge.

A Flash out the window

"Who the hell is out on deck at this time of night!" The Officer of the Watch exasperated as he stormed towards the doorway to the deck. His hand barely touched the handle as the door flew up sending him backwards in surprise.

Balaclava donning figures stormed into the bridge.

"Hands up! Hands up!" They said in thick Canadian accents "Any one touches any buttons they will be shot! This ship is now ours!"

Across the ship, balaclava men went cabin to cabin rounding up the crew into the main mess decks of the ships.

The engine room below roared throughout the night as the balaclava men entered into the ship, seizing the power house of the vessel. The engineer on duty held up his hands before backing up to the main control panel of the ship

"Hands up! Do not touch that console!" The armed men shouted, pointing their assault weapons to the engineer

"Don't shoot me! I'm the only one who can maintain these engines. Kill me and your not getting far!" The engineer seizes the moment, turning around to enable the Ship Security Alert System (SSAS).

A gunshot rang out in the engine room, temporarily replacing the deafening sound of the engines.
