"President of the Assembly, it is my privilege to announce that this government will establish a referendum on Independence by the end of this year. With your support today, we will enshrine this in Quebec's law and will immediately set a date for the proceedings to begin. Previous federal governments have collapsed as quick as they have come about. This government says no more. No more weak leadership and no more holding back the great nation of Quebec!
Let us unshackle ourselves from the chains of colonialism and decide our own fates"
A day's worth of debates would take place before returning a vote of 79 votes for and 45 votes against. A motion calling for the Quebec government to host a referendum would officially be passed. Around the province, Pro-independence parties and celebrations would spring up late into the night.
In Ottawa, the debate would be watched live by Prime Minister Simon Welsh and his chief of Staff Mathew Parry. Rumours out of Quebec suggested this motion was on it's way. The Prime Minister is sat in his office, watching on a big screen opposite him.
"Call the members of the Cabinet and tell them to drop what they're doing and get her as soon as possible.. We have to stop this vote going ahead." The Prime Minister asks. "Is this even legal?"
"Arguably not Prime Minister, but we would need to take them to court for an injunction. How would we even stop a vote of this magnitude? Shall I call a second meeting with the RCMP Commissioner"
"Indeed, bring the Minister of Justice into this meeting too. I imagine he will be needed in court over the next few months."
