Viktor Orban Declares Victory

(Above) Orban addresses supporters after the announcement of the election victory.

Viktor Orban has declared election victory, after final results show a landslide win for the right-wing coalition. The Fidesz-KDNP alliance won a super-majority after gaining 133 seats in the National Assembly of Hungary, out of a possible 199. With one of the highest electorate turnouts of Hungary democratic history, opposition parties have failed to rival the right-wing victory.

Throughout his campaign, Orban promised for 'social prosperity' and 'economic expansion'. These promises resonated with many Hungarians, across all demographics, especially given Hungary's recent economic downfall and the significant growth in refugees within recent years. Orban's campaign also promised for a 'change in direction' of Foreign policy, to withdrew Hungary from the ever-changing allegiances of West and East and officially declare Hungary as a neutral power.

A Renewable Hungary

(Above) A Wind Farm. Wind Turbines like these could potentially be future of Hungary's energy supply

In the his regular speeches to the National Assembly, Prime Minister Viktor Orban today announced his plans for the nations energy, to rid of all fossil fuel and nuclear energy, to replace it with renewable sources. This plan has come with a strict target; by 2020, all of Hungary's energy will be renewable. This is a significant move towards a fossil-fuel free country, combating the inevitable challenges face by pollution and climate change.

Although positive news for Hungary, this also shines a light on the lacking efforts of other global nations in reducing their emissions and preventing the severe changes to the environment. This issue was highlighted by the Prime Minister, whom urged that all countries work past their political tensions and to come together in order to combat these increasingly difficult environmental challenges and to face climate change head-on.
