Full transcript of a speech delivered by the Leader of the Opposition to the Congress of Deputies on a vote of no confidence in the Spanish Prime Minister and his government.
Esteemed Members of the Congress of Deputies,
Today, I stand before you to address the pressing concerns that have gripped our nation. It is with a sense of solemn responsibility and unwavering commitment to our democratic principles that I announce the opposition’s decision to call for a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister. Our nation is at a crossroads. The challenges we face are not merely political or economic; they are moral and ethical. The current administration has shown a persistent disregard for transparency, accountability, and the well-being of our citizens. From mismanagement of public resources to policies that have deepened social and economic divides, it has become evident that this government no longer represents the interests of the people.
We have witnessed a series of failures that cannot be ignored. The mishandling of critical issues such as healthcare, education, and the economy has eroded public trust. Furthermore, allegations of corruption and impropriety within the government have cast a shadow over our institutions. These are not isolated incidents but part of a broader pattern of governance that prioritizes power over the public good.
As the Leader of the Opposition, it is my duty to hold the government to account and to ensure that the voices of the Spanish people are heard. Our call for a vote of no confidence is not made lightly, it is a necessary step to restore integrity and faith in our democratic process. This vote is an opportunity for us to reflect on the values that define our nation. It is a chance to reaffirm our commitment to justice, equality, and prosperity for all. We must ask ourselves whether we are willing to tolerate a government that fails to uphold these principles or whether we will stand together to demand change.
I urge all members of this esteemed chamber to consider the gravity of this moment. Let us come together, not as representatives of political factions, but as guardians of our democracy. Let us act in the best interests of our country and our constituents. The path forward will not be easy, but it is one we must tread with courage and conviction. Together, we can build a future that honors the promise of our democracy and ensures a brighter tomorrow for all Spaniards.
