INTERNATIONAL AWARD OF CONTRACT RE:
MODERNIZING THE GREEK RAILWAYS
ATHENS, OCTOBER 12TH, 2001
With the present invitation, also published in the Greek Government Gazette (Issue 1, vol. 1, 133), the Greek government hereby makes it known to any national or international bidder, being either public or private legal entity, that the Greek People have convened and determined the modernization of their railway system over the period of the next ten (10) years. The present invitation of interest is part of a wider effort to modernize the railway system, and will be in addition to a national project to further upgrade and improve the rail network (to be announced in a time convenient to the Greek government).
Following the instructions issued by the Citizens' Assembly on September 3rd, ratified by the Referendum of October 2nd, the Greek People are issuing a contract for five (5) commercial trains and five (5) passenger trains, the price of which must not exceed 800,000,000 drachmas. The Greek People retain the right to deliberate and decide to break down the contract to multiple bidders, based on the merits of the offers received. Any interested party is directed to contact the Greek Minister of Shipping and Trade, Mr. Xenophon Gallos, either through the incumbent Greek embassy in the bidder’s country, or via the contact information provided in the instructions on the opposite side of this document.
For the People’s Republic of Greece,
