The 1st Long Range Patrol Squadron begins its designated mission in January 2008, marking its first regular and intended operational deployment of the Iranian Navy since there formation following the government change and its reorganization into the Navpāsahn-an-Shāh (Navy of the King).
Under the command of the Squadron leader, Rear Admiral Soroush Asadi, the Squadron conducts patrols on a 12-day rotation along the Arabian Sea coast. The patrols begin at the Squadron’s home base in Chabahar and proceed, with always one ship on patrol duty, into the heart of the passage leading into the Persian Gulf. There, the Squadron guards the entrance to this sea passage for all civilian vessels, before turning around at the sight and latitude of the peak of Kumzar (كُمزار) and patrolling back toward its home base.

The three ships of the Squadron therefore depart at intervals of three days. While one ship is halfway toward its turning point, the next ship departs from Chabahar. Thus, when the first ship turns around at Kumzar, the third ship of the Squadron begins its patrol. Ultimately, each ship returns to base after 12 days, then rests for three days at the home base before starting a new patrol cycle. Each ship equiped with its Mi-17 helicopter and an designated pilot.

The movement sequence is as follows: ML >> LL.

For dock watch duties during departure, arrival, rest periods, and for supporting the ships’ crews, the 1st and 2nd Platoons of the 1st Company, 5th Turkish Marine Infantry Battalion are permanently on duty. This force consists of 40 Marines stationed at the docks and 10 Marines assigned to each ship. These units are replaced after one full patrol cycle (3 × 10 = 30 × 2 = 60).
