MISSION BRIEFING

The goal of this mission is to train the Marine special operators Direct Action principles and methods against larger forces once the Marine operators have been deployed into a mission area. All units are equipped with electronic sensors and laser emitting weapons to simulate firing and being hit. The Marines will divide into 125, 8-man mission teams. Each mission team will be rotated through different tasks to accomplish against 80-man Standard Infantry teams operating over a mission area.

LOGISTICS
These missions would take place in and around Okinawa and it’s surrounding islands. Medical and mechanical personnel were on staff to ensure the safety of the operation. Food, medical supplies, and the like were on hand to ensure all needs of the soldiers in the field were met. Soldiers were instructed to report any medical or mechanical issues and to have them resolved immediately.

Phase 1: Initial Deployments in Hostile Territory

Marine operators are currently trained at successful Amphibious deployment operations. Now, however, the they would be trained on what to do next after arriving in enemy territory. The marines would be deployed by RHIB to their designated operation zone across the training area. Once deployed, the marines needed to learn to conceal their RHIBs and infiltrate into the hostile zone. Care would be taken so the marines would cover their tracks. Scout for enemy patrols and eventually reach the Marines attack staging position. Once in position, Marines would establish a perimeter and begin prepping for the attack phase. This might mean arming explosives, checking their weapons, or reviewing the known geography of the mission area. The focus here would be learning to enter enemy territory after a successful Amphibious landing and retain surprise and positioning.

Phase 2: Reconnaissance and Planning

This phase will focus on retaining stealth and surprise while carrying out the initial reconnaissance of enemy positions prior to a planned assault or mission. Here, teams would be required to approach the 80-man patrol squads at different times of the day, without detection, and carry out a full reconnaissance of their position, equipment, patrol schedule, and determine the vulnerabilities of the defenses. Once the position was reconned, the teams had to report back to their trainers and offer strategies and solutions. The teams were required to be detailed in their assessment of the scouted position. The teams would have to repeat this exercise several times, each time the set up of the enemy camp would be adjusted so that the teams couldn’t memorize prior arrangements. The camp would also send random patrols out, requiring the teams to either eliminate or maneuver around enemy patrols.

Phase 3: Silent Action

This phase will focus on the team’s ability to strike into the objective secretly and quietly, even while eliminating enemy targets. With the teams having reconned the enemy positions and learned their patrol patterns and assessed the defenses of the target, they were now ready to strike. Surprise and silence were the team’s main assets to even the field against foes ten times their number. They needed to be able to enter the mission area with alerting the enemy. The teams would wait till nightfall before making their strike. Once at night, the team would work on selectively eliminating enemies, via melee or silenced weapons as they made their approach. These teams were warned however, that once soldiers started dropping, they had an extremely limited amount of time before the enemy positions caught on. The mission objective was to infiltrate the enemy base, touch a specially marked enemy vehicle, remain there for 1 minute, then leave the mission area.

If a team was unable to complete the mission, they needed to repeat it the next night.

The teams also needed to execute this mission during the day. The daytime mission was much more difficult and they were expected to eventually encounter resistance and have to fight their way out. Teams were permitted no more than one loss before being declared as mission failure.
