Dear King Ryu,

On the behalf of the Emperor and the Japanese people, I would like to congratulate your ascendancy to the throne of Korea. We would very much like to begin diplomatic relations and open a line of communication between our two countries. Although our shared history is that of violence and oppression, in this new, modern era of today, we would like to turn a new page and start making amends, for the benefit of both our countries.

As we are only separated by a small stretch of water, economic and social interactions is that of common occurrence. Given this, Japan wants to develop these interactions to further our bonding. In order to do so, I would like to offer a Free-Trade Agreement between the State of Japan and the Republic of Korea. This would allow greater economic cooperation and growth, benefiting the private sectors and government institutions alike.

We hope you can agree; we believe there is much potential and a lot to achieve with Japan and South Korea working with and alongside each other. I would look forward to your reply.

As we are also hosting a Filipino state visit in Osaka, the Prime Minister would be preoccupied, as is the Emperor regarding internal affairs. Excited at the prospect of a visit, the Blue House Royal Police would immediately prepare for Queen Ha-eun and Princess Ji-Woo to depart from Incheon International Airport. They would charter a Korean Air Airbus A220 after throughly sweeping it for bugs and dangerous devices such as explosives. The female members of the Royal Family would bring along with them their entire entourage, including six members of their extended family, their press coverage, and over forty Blue House Royal Police Officers, who will perform as the main security detail for the Queen and the Princess.

As the plane takes off from Incheon International, two KF-1 Trainer aircraft from the Royal Korean Air Force would serve as fighter escorts, helping bring the plane all the way to Tokyo before breaking off and returning home.

Waiting for the plane to land, Her Majesty Empress Michiko, accompanied by Princess Akiko and Princess Kako, would stand at the end of the red carpet that lined the airplane stairs and the concrete below. Behind them, a black limousine, protected by a convoy of four armoured cars, was parked, ready to set off to the Imperial Palace. A collection of photographers also waited, prepared to capture the historic moment when the two dynasties met.

At this time, very little information was shared about this event as the Japanese government wanted to wait until afterwards to publicise it. Not only was this for security reasons, but also because the Empress wanted to oppose global expectations following the 'rebirth' of the Imperial Monarchy and shock the world with the successes hopefully achieved by this visit.

The flight was rather smooth, with fairly little turbulence at all. Why should there be? It was only a mere two hour flight. By the time the plane reached cruising altitude, it seemed that the flight attendants were already prepping for landing.

"Yes, please..." Queen Ha-Eun said into the telephone, drumming her fingers against the vibrating desk. Despite the smooth flight, she was feeling rather crappy. Her beloved king and husband was back at Seoul on business, and her dear son was away on military duties. "Can you at least pass a message onto him and tell him that I called? If he receives it, he is free to call me back on my personal number. It is still early morning in Imperial Japan. Thank you." Her eyes darted up, looking at Ji-Woo poke her head into the office. "Yes... yes... thank you, have a good day."

She hung up the telephone, looking up at Ji-Woo.

HOW IS FLIGHT FOR YOU? She signed in ASL.

FLIGHT GOOD. HOW IS RYAN? Princess Ji-Woo signed back, not even bothering to try and speak in her accented English. It was quite a hidden fact that Princess Ji-Woo, along with being considered beautiful, intelligent, kind-hearted, and passionate, was also hard-of-hearing; a result of suffering an ear infection as a young child. The entire Royal Family was fluent in American Sign Language and Korean Sign Language, a feat that was only hidden until recently, when King Ryu had his daughter memorize and interpret his inaugural speech.

YOUR BROTHER DIDN'T ANSWER. HE BUSY. Queen Ha-Eun replied.

ASSHOLE. Ji-Woo signed.

"Language," Queen Ha-eun said sharply, not signing a word this time. Ji-Woo read lips fairly well.

Princess Ji-Woo shrugged and entered the office, sitting down on the chair in front of Queen Ha-eun's desk.

FATHER SCARED OF JAPAN? She asked in ASL.

"No." Queen Ha-eun replied.

LIAR.

"I am not, Ji-Woo. We're excited at this whole meeting. We'll be the first representatives from our family to ever meet the Imperial Family. Do you know what we're going to talk about?"

Ji-Woo nodded.

CHINA, AUSTRALIA, FUTURE KOREA-JAPAN COOPERATION. FUN STUFF.

GOOD. Ha-eun signed. REMEMBER. YOU REPRESENT KOREA.

The mother and daughter communicated like this for the next hour until the plane began to descend. As soon as the plane landed to a screeching halt on the runway, two Royal Police Officers exited and checked the air stairs, before finally dropping the red carpet and out came Queen Ha-Eun and Princess Ji-Woo, of the Ryu Dynasty of the Kingdom of Korea.

As the plane came into view, Empress Michiko would softly state to the two princesses stood either side of her.

"Here we are. Remember girls, keep a straight back, a strong posture, and speak steadily and softly. I'm sure your past visits have given you plenty of preparation."

The Royals kept a tight hold onto their hats as the plane came into land, reassuring themselves that the wind had not altered their hair nor outfits. As the plane door opened, the Empress quickly muttered to the Princesses.

"Oh, and don't forget to give a small bow in respect, but certainly do not bow too far; they're our equals, not superiors."

The 3 smiled as the Queen and Princess became visible and made their approach, attempting to resist the blinding flashes from the photographers nearby.

Queen Ha-eun and Princess Ji-Woo paused at the top of the steps to let the media take advantage of what was a momentous Kodiak moment, as was tradition. They were both draped in subtle Korean garb, mainly the Chima, the long dresses that were quite famous and distinctively Korean around the world. Looking down the steps towards Inspector Chung Ha-sun, the chief bodyguard of the pair, she'd ask for visual confirmation that it was safe to proceed. After Inspector Chung nodded back, Queen Ha-eun proceeded down the steps, walking gracefully as if she was walking on a cloud. Princess Ji-Woo, on the other hand, walked slowly and cautiously, her rear end stirring in stinging pain as she remembered tripping over her dress and falling down in preparation for a Royal Ball, an accident that left her out of commission for the entire night.

"May we graciously present, Queen Ryu Ha-eun, first of her name, Queen-Consort to King Ryu of the Ryu Dynasty of the Kingdom of Korea!" The Chief Inspector cried.

"HUAH!" The Royal Police Officers all screamed in synch, the cry echoing across the tarmac. It was a cry of warriors, reminiscent of the Samurai that had long ruled Japan, when the Emperor was nothing more than a figurehead and the Shogunate had power.

Queen Ha-eun thought it was all quite... extra and unnecessary. Her heart began to race as she approached Empress Michiko. Queen Ha-eun was considerably younger, but she was still the same height. In fact, although she wasn't close enough to tell, Princess Ji-Woo was the tallest among the group. Nowadays, in Korea, with their well-fed youth towering above the previous generation by up to a foot or more, she wished now, more than ever, that her son, who was an absolute giant, was here with them dressed to the nines in his military uniform.

Finally, she stopped in front of the three. Queen Ha-eun blinked, realizing the... sudden dire situation at hand. She had received multiple options on how to approach Japan. Before she left, she was briefed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Australia and the West were crying for blood, angered at Japan for reverting back to the Emperor being the head of state. The nationalists in Korea were excited at the prospect of a friendship with Japan, with her husband, King Ryu, believing it to be best to have their friends to the East be very close, so they may one day take back the North together.

The next fifteen seconds may decide the fates of our two countries for the next half century. To alienate Korea with the West... or to the East?

She made her choice.

Bowing her head lowly in deference to the esteemed Empress, she began speaking. "Empress Michiko, we are delighted to finally meet your acquaintance at last. We were extremely honored to be able to visit your beautiful and grand country. I only wish with my deepest heart that my Husband and King were able to be here to witness this momentous occasion." Raising her head, she gestured to Princess Ji-Woo, who bowed, lower than her mother. "May I present, Princess Ji-Woo of the Ryu Dynasty."

"Iznicetoomeetyoo." Ji-Woo said, making the proper signing in American Sign Language. It wasn't quite like JSL, but it was still very similar.

With that being said, the Queen and Princess broke all regulations and trivialities, by outstretching their arms to bring in the Japanese Royal Family for a hug.

The 3 watched as the Queen and Princess made their way down the stairs. The shout of the Officers took Princess Kako by surprise. "That is quite the entrance; they are rather loud", she joked. Her comments were met with a discreet giggle from Princess Akiko.

Once the Korean Royals were only several metres from them, they all gave a shallow bow, with the Empress clearly taking the lead.

The Empress smiled softly as the Queen spoke."You words are too kind, and the honour is ours as hosts. We are all aware of how demanding the business of state can be; we completely understand that he, like the Emperor, has other business to attend to. On the other hand, I believe we shall manage just fine without them".

As the Korean Princess introduced herself, it became obvious that she had hearing difficulties. As neither the Empress nor the Princesses knew any sign language, the Empress simply replied, "Why thank you, it is certainly nice to meet you too."

The Empress was about to introduce the two Princesses when the Queen opened her arms for a hug. the took the Empress by surprise as she wasn't at all expecting it. Before she could think, she followed her instincts a returned the open arms, accepting the Queens hug. Princesses Kako and Akiko looked at one another, wondering if they should follow suit. Noticing their absence, the Empress waved a them to join her.

After a few seconds had passed, the Empress stepped back. "Now allow me to introduce Princess Kako of Akishino, and Princess Akiko of Mikasa.
"Kon'nichiwa," said Princess Kako, greeting them in Japanese, as Princess Akiko simply said "Hello". Both Princesses bowed their heads towards the Queen as the greeted her and the Princess.

The Empress gestured to the parked limousine several feet away, "Please follow me; it's time we get of this cold wind," as they entered the vehicle. The limousine was guarded by for armoured SUV's, two in front, two behind. The protected convoy then made the 40 minute journey from Haneda Airport to the Imperial Palace complex. The convoy would enter the complex via the Seimon Stonebridge, before making a right turn and stopping outside the Chowaden Reception Hall.

"Here we are", the Empress would say, just as the Imperial Guard opened the limousine doors allowing the Imperials and Royals to exit. Once everyone had stepped out, the Empress would lead the way into the Hall. Off its long hall was a relatively large room. An opaque window took up one of the rooms wall, whilst the remaining walls where panelled with a light coloured wood, with darker vertical beams. Inside the sat a long, but thin table, lined with numerous seats. One side stood South Korean flags, whilst the other Japanese. The Empress invited the Queen and Princess to take a seat at one side, with the 3 Japanese Imperials making their way to the other side.

As they took their seats, the Empress said, "Before we begin with formalities, may I offer you tea?". The butler waited with a pot and cups on standby.

"Tea would be excellent, thank you." Queen Ha-eun said as she sat down. Princess Ji-Woo, who was reading her mother's lips, subtly raised her eyebrow in surprise. While she knew that her mother loved tea, especially tea leaves originating from Japan, her mother was breaking one of the cardinal sins of extremely important meetings. Don't drink anything, no matter how tempted. Suffer dehydration in silence. They weren't fearful of poisons, the Royal Police had long since found precautions for that. The unofficial rule originated from an unfortunate incident when engaging in diplomatic talks with North Korea. The face-to-face meeting was conducted at a conference table for eleven hours. Neither side was willing to flinch and show a sign of weakness by leaving the table to answer nature's call, so the meeting became known as the Battle of the Bladders. When the butler offered tea to the beautiful Princess Ji-Woo, she shook her head, waving it softly.

"Nothankyoo." She said, signing along.

Ha-eun gave her a disapproving glance.

The Queen sat down, with Princess Ji-Woo sitting to her left side. At the far left end of the table, a Royal Police Inspector armed with a pistol took up the mantle of head of Korean security for the room. He stood, standing in the modified Taekwondo stance, with his fists clenched to his side. His dark, scanning eyes were hidden behind his sunglasses. He was a Rock Soldier, a member of the famous battalion of soldiers that manned the most fortified border in the world and silently intimidated North Korea into submission. At the other end of the room, Inspector Roe Song-Hun took his position. He was also in the same stance as his fellow at the other end of the room, except his was more relaxed and he was in direct view of Princess Ji-Woo. Rather than wear the earpiece that was standard among the rest of the Royal Police, he instead wore a headset that was wired directly to a translator. He was Ji-Woo's personal bodyguard, a unique position (because he wasn't rotated in and out like the rest of the Royal Family's personal bodyguards) due to his fluentness in American Sign Language and Korean Sign Language. Queen Ha-eun, feeling minutely safer, placed her headphones on to allow herself to understand the Japanese by having their words translated to Hangul. She spoke it, but wasn't quite there yet in fluentness.

"Allow me to begin first, your highness." Queen Ha-eun began, smiling warmly. "By congratulating you and your beloved Emperor on assuming the throne once more. We know that our histories are bloody and violent, filled with war, despair, famine, and darkness. But rest assured, the Ryu Dynasty holds no grudge against you, your family, or your country. The Australians are in Seoul as of now, rattling their sabers at your beautiful country and crying of an insult to the brave men and women who fought in World War 2. However, we would just like to be the first to tell you, that you have friends in the Kingdom of Korea. I, nor my beloved king, are clairvoyant enough to look into the future. It's simply too dark to be able to look into, but we do know this, we know that the potential friendship that our countries can share will light a bulb that can pierce the darkness. Korea and Japan must stand together as friends and sisters if we ever hope to have a chance of weathering any coming storm."

"Your words are very kind, and we very much appreciate your support in this odd matter." The Empress said in reply. "We're rather confused about this whole Australian situation if I'm honest. We weren't expecting such a hostile reaction from a country we considered a Japanese friend and ally; their argument against Japan is that we'll turn into the militaristic, fascist dictatorship overnight and occupy the Pacific. I can reassure you that this is complete nonsense. But, if, as you say, they're currently in Seoul, then it wouldn't surprise me if they're elsewhere trying to gather support. Support for god knows what. Anyhow, we are very glad to hear that we can call Korea a friend. If there's anything we've learned recently, it's that friends are hard to come by nowadays. On the topic of foreign relations, may I ask of your situation with the North? We have noticed that they have become rather absent recently."

 

[Joe]

"It wouldn't surprise us either if they were gathering support with other governments. Perhaps a country that they fight beside in the second World War? America? Britain? China? The possibilities are endless. Rest assured, your highness... We are keeping a very close eye on the situation. We are confident that nothing will happen without us, and in turn, you, knowing about it without advanced notice." Queen Ha-eun said with confidence.

Princess Ji-Woo was watching with interest. It was common knowledge that her older brother, Min-Ki the Second of his Name, or, as he liked to go by his 'white-washed', Ryan, was based in Australia, studying at the Defense Force Academy. Could he possibly be the close eye that they had on the situation?

"We've heard fairly little about North Korea," Queen Ha-eun said, striking Ji-Woo out of her reverie. It wasn't as if she heard her mother, she didn't, it was the movement of Inspector Roe who had begun signing along with Ha-eun's words that did. "Which, of course, worries us. It is in times of inactivity that North Korea becomes the most active, per se. They grow quiet and lull us into a sense of complacency and that is when they strike. We must always be on our guard with the Northern barbarians. However, King Ryu has decreed that in his lifetime, he will see to it that Korea will become united. How this will happen? It's to anyone's guess but his own. We do hope, however, that your Emperor will show his support in whatever act we may take to bring peace to the peninsula."

"Yes, it is likely Australia will turn to the West. After the issue of the embassies within Australia, their allies have became rather clear, whilst making numerous enemies at once. Taking this into account, I can assume that the likes of the USA and Europe, especially Britain, will be their first port-of-call. Again, I do thank you so much for your support and assistance; but so far nothing has come of it and we can only hope it remains that way until they reach out to us."

The Empress took a sip of water from the glass in front before continuing. "Well that is something we will look forward to; Korean reunification is in the best hopes of all nations, especially given the scale of events, past and present. I must say that we, as Japanese, feel somewhat responsible for this North-South, Communist-Capitalist divide, as being former occupiers of course. And to make up for this error, or at least attempt to, we will certainly give our support. "

Princess Akiko leaned forward, engaged in the conversation. The Empress, realising that the Princess wishes to talk, gave a slight gesture to take over.

In her calm and authoritative voice, Princess Akiko spoke,"It is from my understanding, or shall I say our understanding, that the North has been quiet for a rather unusually long period of time, which begs the question whether they are planning something secretly, or more likely, there is an absent authority altogether. To put this as bluntly as possible, the North and South don't have a good track record of negotiation, ruling out the idea of a diplomatic reunification. So the only effective and certain way of unifying the peninsular appears to be from military means. I say this because, if I am correct in saying that North Korea's government has collapsed, with China not in the position to defend the North, the best time to act is soon. I know this sounds very forward and is a gamble. But to make sense of the situation, I would like to put forward the possibility of clandestine operations targeting the North. Then we can get a bigger picture and prepare for anything they're planning."

Queen Ha-eun blinked in surprise, and then her lips upturned in a subtle smile. "Of course, my King has pledged to commit to peacefully negotiating with the North Korean government into having them join us in a Commonwealth. Even if their government has collapsed, we shall stick act under a 'unless-they-fire-first' protocol when it comes to military action. I'm afraid that my liege is rather... worried that if he is seen as the aggressor, the world will balk at such an act and force us to stand down under their combined might, might that even your great military won't be able to counter. For now... we sit, we watch, we continue to host meetings that they don't show up to, and we simply hope that their government will come to the table."

Princess Ji-Woo watched her mother intently. Being hard-of-hearing, she grew up with special talents, mainly talents that related to the face. After all, sign language required it. She could read lips, as well as read subtle muscles in the cheeks and the chin. The voice can be lying, the words can be misleading, but the face and eyes will always tell the truth. It was a good thing that Ji-Woo could only interpret one of those things and she knew right then and there, that her mother was fibbing. It was why she was here after all. She couldn't negotiate, she was far too hard-headed and brash for that. No, she was here to make sure the Japanese were sincere.... and they were! It was her mother who was putting up the front.

The South Korea effort to negotiate with the North was merely a front. If the Kingdom was so intended on negotiating and looking towards peaceful reunification, organizations like the Domestic Tranquility Directorate, a clandestine unit of paramilitary operators who hunted down communists in Korea, would not exist. Policies like the unspoken-but-much-feared Dead than Red would not exist. The possibility of having your rights suspended for your ideology would not exist. The possibility of having a van pull alongside you, men streaming out, grabbing you and pulling you off into the night, never to be seen again, would not exist.

No. No negotiation. Korea was simply biding it's time and awaiting it's moment to strike like a viper.

"It so happens," Queen Ha-eun began. "That we were actually planning a rather clandestine operation. A mere... examination of our Northern neighbor's military might. It's unnerving hearing all of this silence and we hope to get to the bottom of it very, very soon. Although I am not at liberty to share the details with you, given that I haven't been authorized by the National Intelligence Service to share-..."

Oh yes, Ji-Woo thought. The possibility of having the NIS out-rank the Queen of Korea in some aspects, would not exist had the Kingdom's sole intention of looking for peaceful resolutions.

"-... It's inner-workings," Ha-eun continued. "However, whatever we find, we will be sure to share the results with you if they could cause an immediate danger to your beautiful country. Your support in this time is very, very welcome. We only wish that more of the surrounding countries were similar to you and not simply dogs to the West, like Australia and Taiwan." She crinkled her face in distaste and took another sip of the wonderful tea. The Butler moved to refill it with the delicate teapot, but Ha-eun simply placed her hand on the teacup, giving the universal sign for 'no more, please.' There would be no Battle of the Bladders today.

"This talk of the North brings me to another topic, something that Korea's generals have been discussing for a long time. It came from inspiration with EuroCorps, the unit of soldiers from all countries in Europe, cooperating together in one unit. I believe that it is high time that we have had something like that between our nation, a dedicated group of brave young men and women who will become first responders to any situation, whether it be military action or peacekeeping around the Asian hemisphere. What do you think, your highness?"

The 3 imperial royals where rather disappointed to hear that the South would negotiate with the unstable and aggressive North, especially Princess Akiko; she felt embarrassed that her contribution to the conversation was declined.

It came to Princess Kako's mind, who was remaining quiet and only listened to the conversation, the extent to which South Korea would negotiate with the North to achieve unity. Would the South be so willing to satisfy the North, and in doing so, turning their backs on Japan and Japanese interests. These thoughts began to worry her more she thought about them, bring into question the strength and reliance of the South Korean-Japanese friendship. It is without a doubt that she intended to share these concerns with the Empress ,and the Emperor, after the summit had concluded.

"Well in that case, we hope negotiation would bring the successes you desire",she said in her warm voice, trying not to give hint to her disappointment. "We would appreciate any information regarding the North, if not to provide greater security, then to satisfy our curiosity. But I'm sure what, Her Highness, the Princess is suggesting is that we embark on intelligence missions together, gathering and sharing greater information. And, of course, it would be providing much more combined resources to conduct these risky, yet vital, missions."

The Empress raised her eyebrow in interest to the Queens proposal."hmm, such a thing does receive our interest, I can see such a unit have its benefits. However it goes without saying that we should discuss its details before agreeing to the Units formation. For example: How shall the costs be divided?, How much manpower and equipment each must we dedicate to the Unit?, and What primary purpose should this perform, would it enforce GA legislation, counter-act the influences of our rivals, or simply aid in the satisfaction of our interests?."

There, Princess Ji-Woo's significant talents played well. The Japanese were sincere. They truly wanted military action against North Korea, which was something that both parties, South Korea especially, had wanted for quite a long time. What was the whole point of her mother putting up a front in the first place? Would it not be more beneficial to have the Japanese solidified as military partners?

"This unit will be made up of soldiers of Korean and Japanese nationalities... half and half... we will provide our half of equipment and manpower, you will provide the other. They will abide to strictly our interests. You will forgive me, but I do not trust the Global Assembly to... help us if anything were to happen. No, this unit will be a group of soldiers who we will use to carry out operations. It will be a symbol of our newfound friendship and partnership. If you were to deploy this unit anywhere around the world, you can expect that wherever Korea is, we will join you as soon as humanely possible. I only ask that you do the same if we are too."

Oh.

Now, it made sense to Princess Ji-Woo. Her mother put up a front, that was clear. But now, she was subtly informing Japan of her request to have them join the war effort. This was the spike, the nail in the coffin. The unspoken agreement. This unit of soldiers, even if made up of two people, were to be the vanguard of any attack on North Korea. If South Korea deployed them to lead the fight against the North, Japan would be obliged to follow suit. They'd have a legitimate casus belli to wage war against North Korea alongside the South if the agreement were in place. A casus belli that would survive examination by the General Assembly. After all, if a Japanese citizen is killed in combat, the host country would be obligated to respond, no?

"What say you, your highness?"

In fact, we're no longer taking the effort to follow their legislation; it's Japan first, GA second, not the other way around."

The Empress would glance at a piece of paper placed in front of her, it listed the topic of conversation Japan wanted to discuss.

"Another topic we wish to discuss is the affairs regarding the South China Sea and the Republic of China. Very little has publicly been announced regarding the Vietnamese, Taiwanese, and Chinese claims on the Spratly and Paracel Islands, though, with these countries often reaffirming their stake, I can imagine that there will be a struggle in the region within the coming months. What stance, if any, do you think Japan and South Korea should take?"

"When I return to Seoul, I'll notify our generals and we'll select the very best of the best to join this elite corps of soldiers," Queen Ha-eun said brightly, crossing her hands in front of her. Princess Ji-Woo could only imagine which soldiers from the South Korean Royal Army would make the cut. If she had to make a bet (and she wasn't very fond of gambling), she'd think that the nutjobs from the Airborne would be a solid pick. The Airborne were the idiots who threw themselves out of perfectly good airplanes and helicopters. Not only that, but they were exceptionally brave, courageous fighters that refused to die or give up. After all, they were to be dropped behind enemy lines. Where would they run to if they had to run?

Either the Airborne or the stubborn Royal Marines. That was Princess Ji-Woo's guess.

"Our position on the Spratly Islands is quite... pecuiliar." Queen Ha-eun said, cutting Ji-Woo out of her reverie. "On one hand, South Korea has adopted a 1,000 Kilometer Foreign Policy, whereas if it is an territorial issue concerning a nation more than 1,000 kilometers away, South Korea... doesn't really care about what happens. We tend to keep to ourselves, but are looking to get out on the global stage. My King, Min-Ki has expressed interest at keeping a close eye on the Spratly Islands for the sake of keeping communism at bay... or use them to apply subtle pressures to certain nations."

Ji-Woo wanted to groan. Why all these riddles? Everyone knew that South Korea was looking to become a major player in the market (hopefully alongside Japan), something that would rival the three Asian countries to the Southwest. They had only one way to really do this, and that was to curb the influence of certain Asian nations, and the Spratly Islands were the way to do it. One country couldn't simply go in and claim the entire damn thing, the other two would rise to the occasion and make common ground to keep the status quo. But, if two nations selected a champion, preferably, the weakest of the three, they'd be able to level and tip the balance of power to the coalition and either curb the influence of the other two countries or at least embarrass them on the world stage.

"What's your opinion on the whole issue, your Empress? I really do wish to know. Perhaps we can find some common policy..."

"A 1,000 Kilometre Foreign Policy, that is rather peculiar but yet oddly make sense, if you don't mind me saying." The Empress said as she laughed.

"Perhaps we could. Our stance is that of a rather improvised one. We don't want to see the islands fall into the hands of the Vietnamese or Taiwanese. This is mainly because we don't recognise Taiwan as an independent nation and quite frankly see them as a humiliation to Japan and China alike; and we don't want Vietnam expanding as we see them potentially as the greatest threat to Japan and Japanese interests. This is not because of their adopted communist ideology per se, but because they have a reputation of aggressive expansion and they currently operate one of the globe's largest military's. This said, we acknowledge that these islands have to belong to someone, which by default leaves China. Therefore when it come to the South China Sea, we support and recognise the PRC's claims but this is only to counter Taiwan and Vietnam."
