As the sunset over the Syrian skies the civil unrest came to an end. Along the northern regions of the country Islamic Militants ruled the lands. The Syrian Arab Army was in a deadlock but able to keep them at away from major populated areas. However supply lines grew thin and the Militants began probing the lines for signs of weakness over the pass few months. Rocket Artillery was also staged at this makeshift borderline. The Rockets would fire endlessly throughout the daylight hitting any strategic points. Ammunition was also a luxury for the Syrian Arab Army. Moral was at an all time low. The next morning a loud explosion at a predominate checkpoint occurred. A vehicle strapped with explosives blew up inside the checkpoint killing many soldiers. The Islamic Militants fired RPGs at the checkpoint and PKM fire. The Militants quickly and decisively closed the distance and seized the Checkpoint. The government was put on high alert as officials rushed to bunkers in Damascus. Over the coming weeks the Militants seized more grounds deeper into Syria. The Syrian Arab Army was in full retreat as they scrambled to reform a defensive line and stop the Militants from reaching the capital. It wasn't long however till the lights of Damascus was in the sights of the Militants.

Militants in the north of the country would begin immediately shifting resources to their newly acquired checkpoint. This would include small arms and munitions, as well as food and water. They would begin repairing any military vehicles left behind by the Syrian Arab Armed Forces. The Militants at this point only had civilian owned vehicles that either belong to the Militants or were stolen. Meanwhile just to the south east of the checkpoint. A new group was beginning to form. This group dreamed of a Islamic State that would stretch the entire Middle East. While not officially established, the seeds of a new terrorist organization was in the works. To the south west of the checkpoint a protest would erupt. Syrian Flags with a hammer and sickle were waved by these protestors. Members of the Syrian Peoples Liberation Front marched down the streets of Aleppo chanting for a communist party in Syria. Meanwhile the Government in Damascus would learn about the Islamic Militants moving into the city under guise of civilians and asylum seekers. The Syrian Arab Armed Forces are in constant battle with these militants as they continue to try and establish control of a border.

The Polish Office of State Protection Department I would continuously monitor traffic in regions of activity, the OSP would monitor social media outlets originating from the Levant where they would notice videos, conversations, and memes regarding the rising tensions between the Syrian People's Liberation Front and the Syrian Arab Armed Forces. The OSP would assign a task force from Department I to monitor the situation within Syria while they would disseminate the information they gained, through encrypted and secured means, to the Ministry of National Defense and the Council of Ministers. While they waited for the official response from Polish Government, they would continue to build a dossier against the Syrian People's Liberation Front.

In the heart of Moscow, amidst the ancient spires and domes that whispered tales of centuries past, stood Brigadier General Dimitri Losevsky as he was rushed to the Ground Operations Command center. Tall and stern, he walked through the dimly lit corridors of the command center. Beaming light from outside lit the halls as he walked past. He entered the Syria Operations segment of the command center as the staffers handed him a few documents that had made their way to him.

The urgency in the air was palpable as General Losevskymade his way to the war room, where maps of distant lands adorned the walls and the hum of strategists filled the space. With a thud, he took his place at the head of the table, where reports from the front lines awaited were prepared for him. Russian analysts were reviewing SVR intercepts and Syrian intelligence to better understand the current battle space.

As he poured over the documents detailing the escalating insurgency in Damascus, a shadow of skepticism crept across his brow. He had seen the ebb and flow of conflict in the Middle East before, each wave crashing against the shores of stability with relentless fury. Yet, amidst the flow of information, there lingered a sense of doubt – a gnawing uncertainty that Losevsky himself grew to recognize as defining the situation.

The SVR was quick to link the insurgency to an expansion of the Iraq-based conflict, however, Losevsky found himself aligning with the military GRU. This seemed different. Moreover, he appreciated the GRU's report which highlighted that there were multiple insurgencies spewing out of Syria including leftist militias along with fundamentalists. This was especially contrasted with Iraq where secular Arab nationalists were launching attacks to regain control in a struggle for Iraq's national sovereignty and future. Losevsky reviewed both documents as Colonel Angelika Krutaya gave a rundown on the federal security council meeting, which although ongoing, had ordered immediately that the Russian Ground Forces prepare for active combat in Syria.

Losevsky reviewed the initial proposal which included air strikes in Northern Syria, airborne forces retaking former Soviet facilities, and special forces sent to stabilize the southern front. Memories of past campaigns haunted General Losevsky thoughts, the echoes of battles fought on the very soil he was about to be sent back to echoed around him. He had witnessed the folly of lofty ambitions and the harsh reality of war, where victory was often measured in blood and sacrifice. He almost laughed at the several week timeline that the initial report had envisioned. He knew what storm was spreading...he understood very well.

The Nemtsov Government's grand designs for Syria, with its promises of stability and prosperity, seemed like fragile dreams in the face of such turmoil. With a heavy sigh, General Losevskyrose from his seat, his mind resolved to figure out clearly what was happening on the ground. As the briefing was completed, Brigadier General Losevsky stood up and left to the airport to board a flight to deal with the challenges ahead. Along with him would be several defense and intelligence officers and two squads of Russia's Special Forces. They would bring with them armored vehicles and other equipment as they did not know what to expect in Damascus.

On board his plane, Losevsky updated plans including extensive air bombings against former Syrian bases, drones to conduct more ISR information gathering, the VDV to begin combat operations to relieve pressure on the Syrians, and more intensive ground operations. As they began arriving in Damascus, the ancient city greeted him once again, but amidst the splendor of the ancient tapestry, General Losevsky remained heightened alert as he and his men would were taken to the Syrian presidential palace, he prepared himself to understand the situation more deeply. A secured line would be set up as Lovesky planned to brief Nemtsov immediately afterwards.
